T
he decision to create a daycare at Heritage Christian School has been a long time coming. The idea which aligns with the
Christian Reformed philosophy that Christian Education takes place from the cradle to the grave was first put forth in 2006. HCS
also sees it as a great way to expand their ministry. After countless hours and major renovations in preparation for the daycare the
time has finally come. As Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the
heavens.” The new daycare at HCS will be opening in October after much prayer and hard work.
It will be called the Tot Spot. The daycare will have 5 spaces available for 18 months – 30 months and 16 spaces for 30 months – 4
years. They will operate from 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The fee rates are based on the age of the child and
whether or not the child is enrolled full-time or part-time. Parents can expect the standard adult to child ratios as set by the Day
Nurseries Act (1:5 for 18 months – 30 months, 1:8 for 30 months – 4 years).
The Tot Spot will be run separately, in accordance with the Day Nurseries Act, but will be considered an integral part of Heritage
Christian School. There will be a Christian emphasis but Principal Kim Bolton promises that, like the rest of the school, “it will be open
to all families”.
A new addition has been built and it is this new collection of rooms that will house the daycare. The main playroom is spacious and
bright with large windows, colourful rugs and toys awaiting discovery. They also have a separate fenced-in outdoor play area that is a
combination of patio stones and grass.
Principal Bolton is looking forward to introducing more members of the community to the caring, dedicated staff and the wonderful
services that HCS has to offer through the Tot Spot this fall. They have hired the daycare supervisor and at the time of the interview
were in the process of hiring the rest of the staff. Everyone is busy making sure things are ready to go for October.
There is also the possibility of an after school program for older students, run separately in the gymnasium, if enough interest is
expressed.
If you would like more information or would like to make an appointment to tour the facilities please call (705)324-8363 or email
hcs_office@bellnet.ca the school. If you would like to support the important ministry at HCS donations can be made at the school or by
indicating Heritage Christian School on your envelope and of course support through prayer is always needed and welcomed.
