CANAL DAYS MARINE HERITAGE FESTIVAL - Civic Holiday Weekend<br />

For those with a taste for adventure, <strong>the</strong> Canal Days Mar<strong>in</strong>e Heritage Festival <strong>of</strong>fers activities and<br />

attractions to enliven <strong>the</strong> senses. Tall ships ga<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong> <strong>Port</strong> <strong>Colborne</strong> each August holiday weekend,<br />

for a four-day celebration <strong>of</strong> history and heritage. Explore <strong>the</strong> decks, try your hand at <strong>the</strong> wheel,<br />

or feel <strong>the</strong> spray as you cruise Lake Erie on a tall ship. Nestled at <strong>the</strong> junction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Welland Canal<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Lake Erie north shore, <strong>Port</strong> <strong>Colborne</strong> is a work<strong>in</strong>g mar<strong>in</strong>e community, with rich nautical<br />

history and welcom<strong>in</strong>g hospitality. At <strong>the</strong> height <strong>of</strong> summer, <strong>the</strong> entire city takes time to celebrate<br />

<strong>the</strong> reasons why our picturesque city has grown and prospered – our mar<strong>in</strong>e heritage and our<br />

connection to <strong>the</strong> St. Lawrence Seaway and <strong>the</strong> seafar<strong>in</strong>g world at large. Canal Days encompasses<br />

<strong>the</strong> entire community, with activities at a dozen different venues:<br />

HH Knoll Lakeview Park is host to Ontario’s largest outdoor classic<br />

car and kite show. The Seaway Park children’s area has games,<br />

enterta<strong>in</strong>ment, and kid’s activities throughout <strong>the</strong> weekend. At<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Port</strong> <strong>Colborne</strong> Historical and Mar<strong>in</strong>e Museum, <strong>the</strong> history<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Welland Canal is on display and heritage artisans can be<br />

seen work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir trades. Festival guests can ride <strong>the</strong> free Canal<br />

Days shuttle to <strong>the</strong> West Side Arena for an <strong>in</strong>door craft show, or<br />

<strong>the</strong> Garden Sw<strong>in</strong>g Jazz event at <strong>the</strong> Roselawn Centre. Festival<br />

food and shopp<strong>in</strong>g kiosks fill downtown, and <strong>the</strong> Market Square<br />

concert venue features top-notch enterta<strong>in</strong>ment nightly.<br />

Each year, more than 300,000 people visit <strong>the</strong> festival over<br />

four days. Friends, families, and former residents return and<br />

rem<strong>in</strong>isce, and Canal Days cont<strong>in</strong>ues to grow by bounds. An ever<br />

chang<strong>in</strong>g roster <strong>of</strong> activities has repeatedly redef<strong>in</strong>ed Canal Days,<br />

and as <strong>the</strong> festival moves <strong>in</strong>to its fourth decade, that growth<br />

will cont<strong>in</strong>ue as <strong>the</strong> festival blooms aga<strong>in</strong>. A source <strong>of</strong> great community pride, Canal Days is <strong>Port</strong><br />

<strong>Colborne</strong>’s signature event. The countless local volunteers who work tirelessly over 4 days make<br />

Seaway Park<br />

Held annually on <strong>the</strong> first Sunday <strong>in</strong> May, Circle<br />

Trek celebrates <strong>Port</strong> <strong>Colborne</strong>’s section <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Friendship Trail and is a great way to get<br />

<strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> community and raise funds to<br />

provide <strong>the</strong> amenities for our trails. For more<br />

HH Knoll Lakeview Park<br />

The 444 International Walleye Tournament is<br />

one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> most popular fish<strong>in</strong>g tournaments<br />

on Lake Erie. Organized by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Port</strong> <strong>Colborne</strong><br />

& District Conservation Club, this is an excit<strong>in</strong>g<br />

event for pr<strong>of</strong>essional and amateur anglers,<br />

as well as <strong>the</strong> public. With weigh-<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong> HH<br />

Knoll Lakeview Park, cash prizes, raffle draws,<br />
