monitoring our performance. We have identified specific implementation priorities within each
of these strategic directions and individuals to lead the implementation of these strategic
directions.
In December, the inaugural APOG-Cannell Lecture was held in conjunction with our University
Department Interhospital Rounds. Dr. Richard Reznick, Chair of the University of Toronto
Department of Surgery, spoke on Innovations in Surgical Education, an extremely well-received
lecture that set the stage for what I am sure will be outstanding annual lectures.
We were fortunate to have Flora Maragoulas help us as the Administrative Assistant to the
Department this past year and have now welcomed Cherryl Bird in her role as Departmental
Assistant. I would like to personally thank all the staff at 92 College, including Franca
Conciatore, Mary Miceli, Maria Wowk, Katherine MacRury, and Cherryl Bird, as well as
consultant Helen Robson, for their ongoing commitment and support for our Department.
It is, indeed, a pleasure and privilege to serve as the Chair of this Department and I hope you
enjoy reading about our collective accomplishments over the last 12 months.
