collaboration, as well as issues <strong>and</strong> projects<br />

IPEM committees to provide a voice for associate<br />

Panel (APEN)<br />

This has been a very <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g year as we now<br />

represent tra<strong>in</strong>ees on the new Modernis<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Scientific Careers (MSC) scheme, as well as<br />

cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g to support tra<strong>in</strong>ees on the Part 1 <strong>and</strong><br />

Part 2 tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g schemes. One <strong>of</strong> the highlights<br />

<strong>of</strong> the year was organis<strong>in</strong>g 6 successful tra<strong>in</strong>ee<br />

sessions at EMPEC. These allowed over 35<br />

tra<strong>in</strong>ees to present their work to a European<br />

audience. In addition we cont<strong>in</strong>ue to organise our<br />

other tra<strong>in</strong>ee events, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the Part 2 Induction<br />

Day, Communication Skills Workshops <strong>and</strong> the<br />

first Tra<strong>in</strong>ee Induction Day to accommodate both<br />

MSC <strong>and</strong> Part 1 tra<strong>in</strong>ees. The APEN panel meets 3<br />

times a year to discuss issues relevant to tra<strong>in</strong>ees,<br />

<strong>and</strong> we feed back <strong>in</strong>formation via the fortnightly<br />

IPEM newsletter. We are always keen to hear from<br />

tra<strong>in</strong>ees, <strong>and</strong> you can contact us on:<br />

Associate Technologists<br />

Network Panel (ATeN)<br />

This is a small panel, work<strong>in</strong>g hard to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><br />

l<strong>in</strong>ks between technologists at all stages <strong>of</strong> their<br />

tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g. We have cont<strong>in</strong>ued our representation<br />

on the CTETP panel, work<strong>in</strong>g closely to improve<br />

the overall awareness <strong>of</strong> ATeN. We also attended<br />

EMPEC to distribute <strong>in</strong>formation <strong>and</strong> make<br />

contacts. Our cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g objective is to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> raise the pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong> ATeN among tra<strong>in</strong>ees, <strong>and</strong><br />

to recruit new panel members. In 2012 ATeN will<br />

endeavour to support tra<strong>in</strong>ee technologists by<br />

attend<strong>in</strong>g organised events, collaborat<strong>in</strong>g where<br />

appropriate with APEN, <strong>and</strong> ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a direct<br />

l<strong>in</strong>k to current tra<strong>in</strong>ees <strong>and</strong> their supervisors,<br />

through IPEM via email <strong>and</strong> bi-monthly<br />

newsletters.<br />
