1st Annual Board Meeting/Calantas Barrio Fiesta (7May05) Coyote Point Park, San Mateo County, California Discussion on the Progress of the Foundation! The day was graced by the presence of Dr. and Mrs. Herminio Mercado, and their son. By the grace of God, we hope to succeed in this crusade! The day was filled with fun, laughter and games! It was a day showered with festive mood and graced abundantly with potluck of good food coupled with the LECHON that Abel promised to bring in the spirit of the Calantas Barrio Fiesta! It was a solemn moment of signing the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws of the Foundation so as to commence the long process of getting the Foundation registered in California. It was a moment that despite the lack of cohesiveness, bonding among adults and children began to unfold to see a new dawn of beginning for the Calantas Folks! God Bless! Sipa is a favorite game among the youth in the Philippines that builds balance, resiliency and strength of moral character! Winners of the SIPA GAME! Ready for the Olympic Game Would you believe that despite Tahana’s stretching her muscles to the limit, she was not among the lucky winners! Keep up the good spirit! With practice, you’ll certainly win for the next round of the SIPA GAME. Look at Lola! She is the most creative and photogenic person ever caught on camera by Nini during the Calantas Barrio Fiesta Celebration at Coyote Point Park in San Mateo County! WINNERS TAKE IT ALL! Did you win a trophy or candy Better watch out and put yourself into shape! Tahana is all gear-up for next year! People were surprised to see her beautiful poise on the tree! Christine, Tita Chi, Tito Beny and the rest of the Nabong Clan in Dau should see this “moment in time” 15
“The future belongs to the youth and the youth holds the light of the future with ardent passion to make a difference and to effect change in his life for the better and those around him as he learns to become socially responsible”. “Man, in his search for meaning in life, has to develop his potentiality to the fullest so that he could enjoy the very essence of his existence; and only then, he could become fully human capable of transcending the realities of his life” (Mendoza, 2004). As we learn to live by this principle in our search for meaning in life, we become committed for we have found a reason for being, something deserving our best efforts, worth living for, and if need be, worth dying for. Young our children as they are, they are already experiencing this search for meaning in their life. It is up to us, parents, to keep the flame of love burning that even in the darkness of the night, our children will see the glow of the candle and find strength to go on The future leaders of the CYDF USA, Inc. They are like seeds planted in the rich garden soil of life, full of potential and are being nurtured and nourished with the wisdom of the Foundation. An Open Letter to All Our Kabario in Calantas In the year 2000, my wife (tho’ not from Calantas) and I decided to help indigent but deserving talented youth in Calantas help themselves thru a Scholarship Program so they can help incoming scholars by using SWREM Theory In Action as a methodology. Further discussion on this theory is found in the Handbook Part I, Article 4, s1 to s3. Every year thereafter for three consecutive years, we went home to get things organized and finally had registered our efforts on Aug. 16, 2002, into a nonprofit corporation, as: Calantas Young Dreamers Foundation, Inc. We must be dreaming! We made a CHOICE when we did this. We are not expecting anything in return but to feel good about knowing that we share a part of what we can and to remember our parents: Apung Posti and Danding. So, we decided to help and started Phase I: High School Scholarship Program, hoping that some of our Kabario will also help to help make a difference in the life of our youth. There are currently three on-going scholars in the Scholarship Program. Each year, another scholar is added on top of the list! To continue supporting the Scholarship Program, we decided to put up AGRI-BUSINESS, hoping to sustain the Phase 1 Scholars. This agri-business is PERSONAL and has nothing to do with the Foundation EXCEPT to help finance the NEEDS of the CYDFI SCHOLARS. The rental fee derived from the planned agri-business lease, (i.e., Niniko Diesel-Gas Station and the 2.3 hectares of Fishpond), should help us financially achieve our goal of meeting the expenses of all the Phase 1 Scholars. NO REGRETS because we made a CHOICE of doing something to help make a difference in the life of our youth in Calantas! Only God knows how far can we go to carry on this CRUSADE! But, I am almost certain that there are some of our Kabario who are interested to help, in the same way that there are those who don’t believe in what we do! So, we decided to turn our eyes to our Kabario residing in the US; knock at the door of their hearts to find out if they would like to extend their helping hand on the need to establish a Sister Foundation, named: CYDF USA, (Inc). Some of us in California responded gladly and work is now in progress! Also, Dr. Mercado and his Family responded positively for taking a very commendable move of sponsoring at least one, for a start, of the Phase 2: College Scholarship Grant beginning SY: 2007.-2008. It shall be noted that audited Financial Records of the CYDFI Philippines can be inspected by the public, to include in the written request, the Date & Time of the Inspection, and send it to the CYDFI President/CEO in Calantas, Attn: Chrisanta. and keep the pace of their life towards where we have tried to lit the candlelight for them. With prayers in our hearts, we wish them luck, good health and power! We let go and allow them to grow and fly like a butterfly in the garden to be able to explore and enjoy the beauty and glory of what life has to offer. As this reality slowly takes place in their life, we hope that they grow up to become better and socially responsible human beings and bring back with them and in their hearts “the valuable lessons of life worth sharing to empower and live their life to the fullest for others.” Cherish this beautiful wisdom in your heart!
