“You know damn well why they fired me. They wanted to replace me
with a type cheaper labor. And what better why than getting a robot to do
a human’s work for free. Not only do they have to pay it nothing, but it’s
free of emotions. They won’t have to hear a complaint from it.” He raised
his arms in frustration. “Why am I even bothering having the conversation
with you again! We had this same conversation the other night. This is
what I’m talking about; I can’t take this robot obsession of yours.”
Evelyn was taken back by this comment. People always accused her
of that whenever she was defending robots. She stood there silent just
staring down at her plate.
The tone of his voice lowered a bit but still keeping a level of
seriousness, “And that’s why we are all here today. There’s something we
need to discuss.”
He placed his hand over hers, “Victoria and I have been concerned
about you and we have tried helping you. But there is nothing we can do.
And I don’t think I can handle this anymore.”
Evelyn continued to look down at the plate as she picked at her food
with her fork. She knew where this was going.
“We need to break it off,” he said as he waited for a slap or for her to
flip out as her initial reaction.
Evelyn didn’t react as he expected, instead she still sat there in
silence.
