June means… - Lander Chamber of Commerce

The Rotary Club of Lander is
celebrating 75 years of service to
the local, national, and international
communities. Started in
1936, the local club is part of an
international organization with
1.2M members who serve people
in primary areas such as literacy,
disease prevention, and community
development. Rotary is the
largest service Club in Lander.
Lander Rotary currently has 73
members – just short of a goal of
75 in honor of its 75 th year. Current
club President, Mark Randall,
says the Club is in a growth phase
and is attracting the same caliber
of members as has always been
the case. “Rotarians in general are
professional men and women who
have a desire to network, serve
one another, and help those in
need,” he said. Locally, the Club
has provided service in a number
of ways: from distributing free
dictionaries to third graders, providing
scholarships to local high
school students, and financially
supporting various non-profits and
service agencies throughout Fremont
County. This year, the Club
adopted a “Charity of the Month”
program that raised money each
month for outstanding agencies
such as the Care and Share Food
Bank, One Stop Help Center, Lander
Children’s Museum, and the
Lander Pet Connection.
The Club also sponsors a Rotary
program called Interact
within Lander Valley High
School, and a leadership program
called Rotary Youth Leadership
Awards (RYLA). The local
RYLA effort is one of the top two
among all Rotary clubs in the
country. Lander Rotarians like to
have fun, too. The Club sponsors
the annual Buffalo BBQ on July
4, and this year, hosted their first
annual, “Shamrock Shindig” on
March 17 that raised over $8,200
– monies that will go directly
back into the community.
Perhaps the most significant
impact of Lander Rotary has been
their investment in the Lander
Community Foundation (LCF). In
2008, the Club transferred the
corpus of its own local foundation
to the newly formed LCF, an
amount that today accounts for
over half of the entire balance of
the LCF.
International service efforts
have included projects in Mexico:
building schools and offering
scholarships for needy children.
The primary focus of Rotary International
has been the eradication
of polio –an effort that is near
its goal and has raised hundreds
of millions of dollars. Local Rotarians
contribute annually this
effort.

Another benefit is the placement of
brochures and business cards in the
wall racks in the Chamber office.
Members can also have their
information included in the relocation
packets and/or vacation packets that
are requested. This is a very
economical and easy way to reach
your target audience, whether it’s
visitors needing a motel to stay in or a
newcomer to town exploring all the
great things Lander has to offer.
