begin! No doubt your
surgeries will soon be
seeing an increase in sports related
injuries as we all try to emulate the
success of the games.
I hope that not too many of us will need
their services but to help you with
patients who have health insurance or for
those who opt to pay for themselves, our
service update overleaf has a breakdown
of our orthopaedic, spinal, and
physiotherapy services. For NHS patients,
our Choose and Book service includes both
hip, knee and shoulder clinics, and can be
accessed through the NHS Choices web
site or by your traditional letter of referral.
We have also recently distributed the new
Referrers' Directory (V6). lf you would like

Meet our Consultants...
Mr Jeremy Hurren
BSc(Hons), MBBS, FRCS, FRCS(Plast)
Consultant Plastic Surgeon
Mr Jeremy Hurren is a consultant plastic surgeon with special interests
in both cosmetic and oncoplastic surgery. He has Over 20 years of
surgical experience and has been an NHS consultant plastic surgeon
since 2001 in Portsmouth. Mr Hurren trained in Plastic Surgery in
Salisbury, Cambridge, Norwich and London. He was awarded Practice
Privileges in 2011.
His interests include: cosmetic breast surgery - augmentation,
reduction, and uplift body contouring - tummy-tucks, liposuction, arm
and thigh reduction and post-bariatric plastic surgery, facial plastic
surgery including eyelids, face and neck lift and prominent
earcorrection, diagnosis and removal of moles, lumps and other skin blemishes. To refer, please

Mr Charles Durrant
MA, MBBS, BSc(Hons), FRCS(Eng), FRCS(Plast)
Consultant Plastic Surgeon
Mr Charles Durrant qualified from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School, part of
Imperial College London, in 1999. After completing his general surgical
training he was appointed to the highly regarded London Pan-Thames
Regional Specialist Training Programme in Plastic Surgery.
He trained in Plastic Surgery for 8 years before taking up his current post as
NHS Consultant in Plastic Surgery at Queen Alexandra Hospital in
Portsmouth. He achieved the highest mark in the United Kingdom for the
FRCS(plast) exit exam and has received a number of awards and grants that
have enabled him to study abroad the latest techniques in this exciting
specialty.

Mr Simon Heppell
MBChB, FRCSEd, (Plast)
Consultant Plastic Surgeon
Mr Simon Heppell trained in Medicine at the University of Leicester,
qualifying in 1993 followed by Officer Training at Royal Military Academy
Sandhurst. He continued surgical training in Leicester, London, Frim ley Park,
Germany and Southampton during this time he attained FRCSEd
(professional Surgical qualification).
Mr Heppell has worked in Northern Ireland, Germany and Cyprus and has
been deployed to Afghanistan treating many war casualties. Mr Heppell took
up his NHS post in Portsmouth as Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgeon in 2007, his specialist interests include all aspects of Breast Surgery
(Reconstruction and Cosmetic), Skin Cancer and Microvascular

Spinal Services
Nuffield Health Chichester
Hospital is pleased to announce
that Mr Jason Harvey, Consultant
Spinal Surgeon has extended his
services within the hospital.
Mr Harvey's elective work is
exclusively spinal, involving all
aspects of spinal care. He performs
spinal surgery of the neck and
lower back as well as performing
pain relieving injections where
appropriate and a range of spinal
conditions including spinal
decompression and fixation. He is
also the UK trainer for the Prodisc
cervical disc replacement and
trains both Orthopaedic Spinal
Surgeons and Neurosurgeons in
this exciting technique.
Mr Harvey consults within the
outpatient department on a
Thursday evening, he then
schedules patients as appropriate
for surgery, on either a Tuesday or
Friday evening.

experienced and caring professionals throughout the hospital. With a wealth of in-depth
knowledge and expertise for hip, knee, shoulder, hand, foot & ankle services plus many more. and
with direct access to a comprehensive range of Physiotherapy services and treatments, we
provide patients with one to one, personalised services to ensure the pathway of care is designed
to meet the specific needs of patients.
Technology and technique frequently change in the surgical arena and at Nuffield Health
Chichester Hospital. we embrace the opportunity to introduce services that will enhance our
patient recovery and contribute towards their improved health and wellbeing. New surgical
techniques for knee replacements now include the use of bespoke prostheses which can be
patient specific to improve mobility, recovery and further reduce the risk of infection.
Additional treatments being developed and offered from within the hospital also include:
• Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT), which is a method of treatment for multiple
tendonopathies derived from lithotripsy
• Collagenese injections for the treatment of Dupytrens
Access for your patients into our services and treatments couldn't be easier! Whether they are
insured or self funding, simply refer your patient via the on-line referral facility within our website
or send a letter of referral to the hospital and we'll do the rest!
We are now 'live' with additional services available under Choose & Book. again you can refer via
the Choose & Book system or by traditional letter of referral with reference to the relevant clinic as
noted above.
The range of Choose & Book Services now include:
• Shoulder Services **NEW**
• Knee Services **NEW**
• Young Adult Hip Service (please note that funding is not currently available for those within the
SHIP PCT catchment area)
• Arthritic Hip Service

Physiotherapy ServicesTo further compliment our in-patient service, we offer a comprehensive
range of physiotherapy services and treatments from our Physiotherapy Department located
within our Fitness and Wellbeing Centre at Chichester Gate, Chichester, West Sussex P019 BEL.
Conditions assessed and treated include: back and neck pain; headaches; whiplash injuries;
peripheral joint problems; sports and soft tissue injuries; chronic pain; post surgery rehabilitation;
work related conditions; acupuncture for pain relief and aquatherapy.
