STANDARDS<br />
Students read and understand a variety of materials. (RW1)<br />
Students read to locate, select, evaluate, and make use of relevant information from a variety of<br />
media, reference, and technological sources. (RW5)<br />
Students know how to use and construct maps and other geographic tools to locate and derive<br />
information about people, places, and environments. (G1)<br />
Students apply the process of geographic inquiry examining issues by using geographic skills<br />
and appropriate technologies to ask and answer geographic questions. (G7)<br />
BENCHMARKS<br />
Students will use information from their reading to increase vocabulary and language usage.<br />
Students will use information to produce a quality product in an appropriate format.<br />
Students know how to use maps and other geographic tools to acquire, process, and report<br />
information from a spatial perspective.<br />
Students know how to compile and use primary (fieldwork) and secondary (texts, maps, and<br />
computer databases, etc.) information to acquire geographic information in order to answer<br />
geographic questions.<br />
Students know how to organize and display geographic information using appropriate<br />
technologies to answer geographic questions.<br />
OBJECTIVES<br />
Students will become knowledgeable of geographic vocabulary as it pertains to maps and the<br />
geography of the <strong>Mexican</strong>-<strong>American</strong> <strong>War</strong>.<br />
Students will complete the maps to increase understanding of the territory involved in the war.<br />
SPECIFICS<br />
<strong>The</strong> amount of land that changed hands at the end of the <strong>Mexican</strong>-<strong>American</strong> <strong>War</strong> was vast. <strong>The</strong><br />
territory held a multitude of climates from the most arid in the deserts of Arizona, Nevada, and<br />
New Mexico, to the coldest in the mountains of Colorado, New Mexico, and California. <strong>The</strong><br />
territory was rich with resources and potential development.<br />
