About the Author
Dan Villescas was born in El Paso, Texas, and moved to Denver in the late 70s. He attended
Metropolitan State College of Denver and graduated with a degree in History.
Dan is working on his masters degree in Education at Regis University in Denver, and is
expecting to graduate in August of 2000. Dan recently began classes in the Leadership
Academy, a joint program through the University of Colorado at Denver, Denver University,
Jefferson County Public Schools and Denver Public Schools. This program is designed to
educate prospective leaders in the role of administrators and principals. Dan expects to
complete this program in December of 2000.
Dan has taught in the Denver Public Schools for three years as a 6th grade bilingual Social
Studies teacher. He also coached flag football and basketball at Lake Middle School. Dan
recently left the classroom to work as a Curriculum Development Specialist for the Alma
Curriculum and Teacher Training Program. Before leaving the classroom, Dan received the
Crystal Apple Teaching Award. This award is based on peer nomination for outstanding
teachers in the classroom and the community.
Most importantly, Dan is a proud husband and father of two children and resides in southwest
Denver. Dan aspires to move into the administration or principal areas of education.
