Expansors for Removable Appliances 

The Pozzi/Leone Expansors for Removable Appliances are the result of extensive research and development. They are manufactured 

by Leone for Pozzi, using modern, high-tech machinery, using surgical grade stainless steel. Manufacturing conditions are computermonitored 

to ensure strict quality control. 

Expansors for Removable Appliances are available in four groups: the 800 Series - comprised of Swartz and Sagittal types 

divided into four types - medium, standard, universal and micro-sectional; the 670 series of expansors with acrylic friction, 

the 500 Series comprised primarily of fan-type Expansors, and the 900 Series - comprised primarily of 3 way expansors. 

Expansors are provided with double guided pins, upper or lower appliances. They have high-end retentive bodies for a strong grip 

into acrylic base. The Muscle Thread is extruded with compression resulting in a perfect fit, total surface smoothness, and maximum 

hardness. This also results in a 50% increase in the breaking load in comparison to that of ordinary expansion screws. 

The guide pins, with a tolerance of + - 0.0001 mm, ensure high stability precision. The guide pins on the Swartz type Expansors 

slide into the bodies which increases the expansion of 1mm in each side (total 2mm) - see illustration above. All screws 

are supplied with a stainless steel activation key, and a yellow plastic arrow indicating the opening direction is attached. 

For use in narrow appliances when more strength than in a 

microexpander is needed. For upper and lower appliances.

Stainless Steel Expansors with Acrylic Friction 

Specifically designed for pressure curing, the particular construction technique assures nonslippage 

and extremely precise movement on the guide pins for excellent stability. 

670 Series 

The reproduction of the threaded part of the Expansor relies on the curing of the resin, 

assuring a perfect fit for every single Expansor, thereby eliminating any tolerance problem 

and guaranteeing a precise fit. The Expansors are provided with a plastic retention tab for 

easy placement into the plate and protection during acrylic application. All Expansors are 

supplied with key and marking arrows.

Pozzi Ortho Resin - Cold Cure 

Pozzi Ortho Resin is a self-curing, high impact acrylic that was developed 

for orthodontic use in making strong and attractive appliances and retainers. 

The powder is a “Lo-Flo” formulation that will rapidly absorb the 

monomer and will not slump, flow or run. Plastic thickness and form can 

be rapidly accomplished because, when Pozzi Ortho powder and liquid 

are sprayed on the stone cast, the acrylic will stay put and even. Pozzi 

Ortho Resin Kit is supplied with clear powder and pink or clear liquid. 

Kit contains: 16 oz. powder, 8 oz. pink or clear liquid,jet dispenser, eye 

dropper and instruction sheet. 

Glitter 

Pack of 50g and a spray bottle. Add a small amount of the glitter to the 

resin powder and create fun for your patients! An added benefit is that 

it will make the retainer x-ray visible.

Expansors for Fixed Appliances 

Expansors for fixed appliances are the only hygienic rapid palatal expansors made from Swedish surgical grade stainless steel. With the new 

Leone Laser Lightning welding process, the 620 Expansor is better than ever before. Laser Welding of the extension arms into the body of 

the Expansor is accomplished without the use of solder. This eliminates oxidation and corrosion in the oral environment. The arm and body 

are fused together resulting in the arms becoming a part of the expansor housing. Both the directional arrows and expander sizings are laser 

etched into the surface of the Expansor body. Expanders using a machine stamping process will sometimes fall out of alignment and compress 

the body too hard causing the threading not to turn properly. As an added benefit we have laser etched a lot number on every rapid palatal 

expansor, allowing for the maintenance of accurate patient records. The housing design is completely smooth eliminating any chance for plaque 

building up in secluded areas.

A. Mechanical retention on the screw thread will 

maintain a direct compressive force to suppress 

slippage - Muscle Thread TM . 

B. The thickness of the diameter of the guide pins 

and the housing has been increased to allow for a 

better transfer of force to the teeth without bending 

the pins. 

C. Two directional arrows are laser etched on the 

housing to guide the direction of the key to open 

the Expansor. 

D. Maximum expansion limit in millimeters is 

marked on the housing of each expander. Even 

when the appliance is installed in the patient’s 

palate, it is always possible to verify the remaining 

expansion capacity in millimeters by calculating 

the difference between what is marked on the 

housing and the expansion already obtained. 

E. Extended expansion capacity to the design of the 

head of the thread allows the housing to expand 

symmetrically on both guide pins. 

F. IMPORTANT 

Due to the precision matching of the 620 parts, it might happen 

that a few Expansors will not open as easily as others. 

Therefore it is important to test the Expansor before constructing 

the appliance. Please use the following instructions: 

To insure proper opening of the Expansor, the straight key 

must be inserted HALF WAY through the hole and given a hard 

turn using the thumb and index finger. Turn in the 

direction of the arrows located on the expander. After the 

initial opening, the Expansor will turn with proper torque 

(See illustrations #1 and #2). 

G. A finger ring safety leash key holder is included. 

H. The Expansor key supplied with every device is made of 

stainless steel and its tip is fabricated with a 45 degree bend 

to facilitate the activation of the Expansor when in the mouth. 

Warning. In order to safely secure the key to the finger ring 

leash, first insert the key in the hole before snapping onto 

button. 

I. A stainless steel Arm Bending Instrument is to be used to 

properly bend the arms of the 620 Expansor. It eliminates the 

risk of breaking the Expansor arms.

Pozzi Straight Tip Activator 

Use the Pozzi Straight Tip Activator for the initial expansion prior to fabricating 

the appliance. The straight tip instrument must be inserted half way through the 

hole and given a hard turn using the thumb and forefinger. Turn in the direction 

of the arrows located on the Expansor. Hardened stainless steel tips are removable, 

however both tip and cone socket handle are completely sterilizable up to 350˚ F. 

The handles are light weight and durable with a comfortable “no-slip” grip. 

Pozzi Clinical Expansor 

An innovative new instrument used for advancing expanding appliances intra-orally 

with a lateral approach. Because of the unique construction of this instrument, the 

90 o activating tip is easily inserted into the most anterior hole without obstruction 

to the appliance. Once the instrument is properly seated in the screw, the handle is 

turned to provide activation. The stainless steel tip has a stop mechanism to prevent 

the tip from touching the palate.

This device is an evolution in the design of the previous spring-loaded expander, designed with technical and scientific collaboration 

of Dr. Claudio Lanteri and Mr. Filippo Francolini. This new expander features a small size body, and it is equipped with two 

Nickel Titanium MEMORIA ® leaf springs allowing the release of calibrated and continuous forces to promote the dental expansion

Fast Back Distalizer 

A1760-91 

Fast Back is a new device for the distalisation of upper molars, developed through 

the cooperation of Dr. C. Lanteri and Mr. F. Francolini. The Fast Back provides a 

translational movement of the molars using a pre-determined amount of pressure. 

The Fast Back’s effectivness does not depend on patient cooperation and it maintains 

good anchorage control. The principle of the Fast Back distilization process is based on 

the compression of a Memoria ® coil spring, available in 200 g or 300 g, which exerts a 

constant force on the molar. The spring can be re-activated each month through the 

expansion of the screws in the device. The tube, pre-welded on the band, enables the 

screw arm to slide smoothly with total control of the direction of distalisation. 

The Fast Back Kit contains all of the elements needed for the construction of a bilateral 

Fast Back device.
