Deerlake Middle School
Algebra I (1200310)
Textbook: Glencoe Algebra I
Course Outline 2011 – 2012
Welcome to my class! I am looking forward to a positive, productive year. This
letter explains the organization and course requirements of my class. It will also
let you know how you can experience a successful year.
Academic Grades: The academic grading scale is as follows:
Tests = 50% 100 - 90 A
Quizzes = 30% 89 - 80 B
Assignments = 20% 79 - 70 C
69 – 60 D
59 - 0 F
Each student’s nine weeks grade is based upon an average of his/her graded work. These grades will
include tests, quizzes, and classwork/homework.
Homework:
Homework will be assigned daily and will be due the following school day at the beginning of the period.
No late work will be accepted except in the case of an absence. You must have completed the assignment,
have the questions or problems completely written out, and show all the work. Please obtain the home
telephone numbers of several students in the class so that you can obtain assignments in case of absences.
Some homework grades may be taken as quiz grades. Assignments are to be written in the student planner
daily. It is the student’s responsibility to get all missed assignments for any absence from class. If you
know you are going to be absent, you must obtain your assignment in advance. You can also check my
webpage for announcements, homework assignments, etc.
http://www.deerlake.leon.k12.fl.us/bedingfieldc
Tests / Quizzes:
There will be a test at the end of each chapter and quizzes will be given throughout. Most quizzes will be
announced, but some will not. If tests, quizzes, or other assignments are announced before an absence,
students will be expected to take the test or turn in the assignments the day you return. Cheating on
any test, quiz, or homework assignment will result in an automatic zero for all parties involved.
Class Requirements:
Bring the following materials to class daily:
o Three-ring notebook with pockets (at least 1 in. thick) with dividers
o A spiral notebook for math only for notes (approx. 100 pages with a plastic cover, if possible)
o Loose-leaf notebook paper, index cards & graph paper
o Ruler, pencil(s) & colored pens (not yellow or black)
o
o
Your homework / class assignments & student planner – to be filled out daily
Wish list: Kleenex, paper towels, Clorox wipes, AAA batteries, band-aids, or classroom
supplies
The 3-ring notebook will help you keep up with your assignments, workbooks, class notes, study sheets,
returned papers, and supplies. Please be advised that the notebook, etc. may be graded periodically
throughout the year by unannounced quizzes. Textbooks will be issued and are to be kept at home since we
have a set for classroom use. Damaged or lost textbooks will result in a fee.
Credit Information:
Any student passing Algebra I in any middle school in Leon County will receive one high school credit.
Please note: All students must pass the End of Course Exam in order to receive credit for Algebra I.
By signing and returning the attached student information sheet, I acknowledge that I have read and
understood the course guidelines as stated for Algebra I. I also give permission for my child to participate
in the supervised viewing and use of the Internet for educational purposes in this class as Internet
presentations are an integral part of this course.
