An exciting Permanent Full-Time opportunity as a Scientific Information Officer is available at Women’s<br />

<strong>College</strong> Research Institute, reporting to the Director of Research Operations and the Vice President Research,<br />

Women’s <strong>College</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong>.<br />

Women’s <strong>College</strong> Research Institute (WCRI) at Women’s <strong>College</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> (WCH) is leading the nation and the<br />

world in research to advance women’s health and develop innovative health system solutions for all.<br />

Summary of Duties, but not limited to:<br />

Working in partnership with WCH’s Strategic Communications department and Women’s <strong>College</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong><br />

Foundation as well as WCRI’s leaders, operations team and scientists, the Scientific Information Officer will<br />

inform, oversee, support and execute a comprehensive strategy that supports WCRI’s mission and strategic<br />

priorities, and that increases the profile and impact of our scientists’ work. The incumbent will play an integral<br />

role in a broad range of strategic advancement activities designed to support our funding success rates,<br />

promote our research to key stakeholders and grow our academic profile.<br />

The incumbent will lead:<br />

Writing/editing support for WCRI’s large-scale grant applications, and for specific targeted competitions<br />

WCRI’s high priority advancement opportunities including the coordination and writing of nomination<br />

packages for awards<br />

WCRI’s targeted strategic communications documents and presentations on behalf of the Vice-<br />

President, Research, Women’s <strong>College</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong><br />

WCRI’s organizational and corporate communications, including regular contributions to meeting<br />

briefing notes, speaking points and slide presentations<br />

Knowledge translation activities associated with WCRI-led projects<br />

A collaborative effort with WCH Strategic Communications to develop WCRI-led external<br />

communications, including Impact, our quarterly newsletter (print and email), WCRI annual report,<br />

website, WCRI-led social media activities, relevant events, etc.<br />

The incumbent will support:<br />

WCH’s external communications involving research, including Connect (a bi-weekly e-newsletter), the<br />

WCH annual report, the annual patient handbook, relevant media relations and social media activities,<br />

relevant events, etc.<br />

WCH Foundation’s requests for support to highlight the impact of WCRI’s research.<br />

This position plays a role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and<br />

processes that will optimize a safe environment for all.<br />

Qualifications/Skills:<br />

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY<br />

Scientific writer with at least three years experience in an academic or research environment and the<br />

demonstrated ability to effectively and clearly communicate the impact of complex scientific ideas. The<br />

ideal candidate will hold a bachelors degree and a certificate in corporate communications.<br />

Previous knowledge and experience with the science of women’s health, innovative models of care,<br />

and health services research, as well as knowledge of funding sources and the non-profit sector, is an<br />

asset.<br />

A familiarity with provincial and national health research granting agencies as well as previous<br />

experience with grant applications and tri-council funding is an asset.<br />

Experience preparing speaking points.<br />

Outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are essential.<br />

Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, discretion and tact combined with a<br />

willingness to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a challenging, nuanced and dynamic<br />

environment.<br />

Strong multi-tasking and time and project management skills as well as the ability to respond rapidly to<br />

emerging tasks in a deadline-oriented environment.<br />

Ability to act as a champion for WCRI and its scientists in a variety of internal and external<br />

environments.<br />

Proficiency in Word and PowerPoint are essential. Experience with InDesign and ModX an asset.<br />

Experience with web management and design an asset.<br />
