An exciting Permanent Full-Time opportunity as a Research Communications Advisor exists in the<br />
Women’s <strong>College</strong> Research Institute, reporting to the Director of Research Operations and the Vice President<br />
Research, Women’s <strong>College</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong>.<br />
Women’s <strong>College</strong> Research Institute (WCRI) at Women’s <strong>College</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> (WCH) is leading the nation and the<br />
world in research to advance women’s health and develop innovative health system solutions for all.<br />
Summary of Duties, but not limited to:<br />
Working in partnership with WCRI’s leaders, operations team and scientists, WCH’s Strategic Communications<br />
department and Women’s <strong>College</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> Foundation, the Research Communications Advisor will inform,<br />
oversee, support and execute a comprehensive research communication strategy that supports WCRI’s<br />
mission and strategic priorities, and that increases the profile and impact of our scientists’ work. The incumbent<br />
will play an integral role in a broad range of strategic communications activities designed to promote our<br />
research to key stakeholders and support our funding success rates.<br />
The incumbent will lead:<br />
WCRI-led external communications, including Impact, our quarterly newsletter (print and email), our<br />
annual report, our website, occasional WCRI-led media relations and social media activities, relevant<br />
events, etc.<br />
WCRI’s organizational and corporate communications, including regular contributions to meeting<br />
briefing notes, speaking points and slide presentations<br />
WCRI’s targeted strategic communications documents and presentations on behalf of the Vice-<br />
President, Research, Women’s <strong>College</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong><br />
WCRI’s high priority advancement opportunities including the coordination and writing of nomination<br />
packages for awards<br />
Writing/editing support for WCRI’s large-scale grant applications, and for specific targeted competitions<br />
The incumbent will support:<br />
WCH’s external communications involving research, including Connect (a bi-weekly e-newsletter), the<br />
WCH annual report, the annual patient handbook, relevant media relations and social media activities,<br />
relevant events, etc.<br />
WCH Foundation’s requests for communications support to highlight the impact of WCRI’s research.<br />
This position plays a role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and<br />
processes that will optimize a safe environment for all.<br />

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY<br />
Qualifications/Skills:<br />
Scientific writer with at least three years experience in an academic or research environment and the<br />
demonstrated ability to effectively and clearly communicate the impact of complex scientific ideas. The<br />
ideal candidate will hold a bachelors degree and a certificate in corporate communications.<br />
Previous knowledge and experience with the science of women’s health, innovative models of care,<br />
and health services research, as well as knowledge of funding sources and the non-profit sector, is an<br />
asset.<br />
A familiarity with provincial and national health research granting agencies as well as previous<br />
experience with grant applications and tri-council funding is an asset.<br />
Outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are essential.<br />
Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, discretion and tact combined with a<br />
willingness to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a challenging, nuanced and dynamic<br />
environment.<br />
Demonstrated ability to inform, execute and evaluate a communications plan.<br />
Experience preparing speaking points,<br />
Strong multi-tasking and time and project management skills as well as the ability to respond rapidly to<br />
emerging tasks in a deadline-oriented environment.<br />
Ability to act as a champion for our research institute and its scientists in a variety of internal and<br />
external environments.<br />
Proficiency in Word and PowerPoint are essential. Experience with InDesign and ModX an asset.<br />
Experience with web management and design an asset.<br />
