Comparisons between this type of rain gauge and an international standard pit gauge, mentioned in one of the previous sections, were carried out at De Bilt in 1972-1975. Unfortunately, it appeared that the daily records of about 30% of the stations were inadequate (Yperlaan, 1974), so only the data of 42 stations could be used for testing equation (10) as far as daily totals were considered.
