Chemical Sciences<br />

Entry requirements<br />

All applications are looked at individually by members of the Admissions<br />

team. You will also be required to attend an interview.<br />

A/AS-levels<br />

Tariff/Grades requirement: All programmes (F100, F103, F1C7, F152, F153) require 300<br />

points at A2 level, and chemistry A2 with a minimum grade B. Mathematics to at least AS<br />

level is also desirable. Biology A2 and chemistry A2 with a minimum grade C are required<br />

for Biochemistry (C700).<br />

Additional information: In addition to specifically-required subjects, other A2 level subjects<br />

that may be accepted include: another science subject (preferable), English, a language;<br />

a traditional humanities subject or a social science. A fourth subject at AS level is not<br />

required if 3 A2 level subjects are offered. Usually GCSE mathematics grade C and GCSE<br />

English grade C (or equivalent) are required.<br />

Excluded subjects: General studies.<br />

Vocational subjects at A2 level are only accepted with high grades and only for certain<br />

programmes.<br />

Acceptability: Acceptable only when combined with relevant A2 levels.<br />

Subjects and grades required: We will consider applications on a case by case basis from<br />

<strong>student</strong>s with BTEC National Certificate in combination with relevant A2 levels, where<br />

there is clear evidence of exceptional quality and when we are satisfied that the<br />

qualification offered is of sufficient academic rigour; this will involve an interview prior<br />

to any offer being made.<br />

Acceptability: Acceptable on its own and combined with other qualifications.<br />

We will also consider applications on a case by case basis from <strong>student</strong>s with BTEC<br />

National Diploma, where there is clear evidence of exceptional quality and when we are<br />

satisfied that the qualification offered is of sufficient academic rigour; this will involve an<br />

interview prior to any offer being made.<br />

Subjects and grades required: 32 points overall • Chemistry-based programmes (F100,<br />

F103, F1C7, F152, F153): 32 points overall, must include chemistry (HL) and two other<br />

subjects to be specified (HL or SL) with grade 5 and mathematics desirable •<br />

Biochemistry (C700): 32 points overall. Must include biology (HL) and chemistry (HL)<br />

with a grade 5 and another subject to be specified (HL or SL) at grade 5.
