Our academic reputation means that you will be

As well as academic excellence, Queen Mary is

Research Assessment Exercise
The Government’s Research Assessment Exercise
grades the quality of academic research work
taking place in UK universities. Queen Mary did
exceptionally well, confirming our place in the
very top group of universities. According to
tables published in the Times Higher Education
Supplement, Queen Mary has been ranked 13th
in the country out of 132 institutions. The Guardian
places Queen Mary even higher, 11th out of 132 in
the UK.
Queen Mary was highly ranked in several subjects:
• Ranked 1st in the country for Drama
• Ranked 1st in the country for Geography equal
with Cambridge, Oxford, Durham and Bristol
• Ranked 1st in the country for Linguistics
• Ranked 1st in London for Medicine
• Ranked 2nd in the country for Dentistry
• Ranked 2nd in the country for English Language
and Literature
• Ranked in the top 5 in the country in several areas
of Medicine, in many of these, ahead of Oxford,
University College London and King’s College

In addition to the excellent RAE results, Queen Mary has done well in several other university rankings.
• We are ranked in the top 20 universities in the UK according to The Times Higher Education 2010
World rankings, and in the top 200 in the World according to the Shanghai Jiao Tong University
Rankings
• In the 2010 National Students’ Survey, our students reported being very satisfied with the quality of
their course (average 86 per cent).The levels of satisfaction experienced by students of English and
Drama, Geography, Engineering, History, Film Studies, Law and Physics were all over 90 per cent,
far exceeding the national average.
• We are ranked 13 in the UK for student:staff ratio in The Sunday Times university league table 2010
• Queen Mary graduates are in the top ten for the highest starting salaries in the UK in The Sunday
