Dulwich Hamlet is aware of its responsibilities in ensuring that ICT usage by all network users is responsible,
safe and secure. Most pupils have a good range of skills that enable them to access and make effective use of
digital resources to support their learning. They understand the issues relating to safe and responsible use
of ICT and adopt appropriate practices.
The teachers at Dulwich Hamlet are responsible for promoting and supporting safe behaviours in their
classrooms and following school e-Safety procedures. Central to this is fostering a ‘No Blame’ culture so
pupils feel able to report any bullying, abuse or inappropriate materials.
Dulwich HamNET is our schools virtual environment where teachers can upload tasks and pupils have
access to their own Blog and email account. Pupils are members of forums that allow discussions to take
place (NB. this is NOT online chatting). All pupils and parents of the school have access to the ‘Stay Safe On
Line’ community where our Dulwich HamNET safety rules are posted: please take a look over half term.
Information regarding safety on line can also be found from CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online

carers receiving their child's secondary
school offer on the 1st March 2013 (An
email notification will be sent after 5pm
with a letter confirming the offer and
relevant information posted out on the
same day) will be available.
Southwark Parent Partnership and the
School Preference Service will operate a
drop-in session for parents & carers in
the days following the offer to provide
impartial advice and discuss their
options at The Southwark Learning and
Business Centre, Cator Street,
Peckham, SE15 6AA Commencing:
6-15 March 2013 Time: 9:30am-12:50pm
and 1:50pm-3:30pm.

Shoe Box Appeal
Thanks to your efforts, Link Romania
were able to deliver over 40,000
shoeboxes to Eastern Europe. This
comes from a letter I received from Lisa
Hector the General Manager to do with
the Elderly Shoebox Appeal: “so many
elderly people cried when they got our
boxes that we were beginning to think
we weren’t so much a blessing as a
curse. Our translators explained they
were just so overwhelmed… one lady
wouldn’t let us leave the house until she
had hugged us half to death and
delivered lots of kisses.” We have
already registered for next year.
Marathon
Don’t forget the children will be
attempting class marathons in Dulwich
Park (Court Lane entrance) on Fri 1
March from 1.15pm onwards – you are
welcome to watch. Straight after school
there will be a 5K adult race starting at
4pm from the Court Lane entrance and
you are very welcome to participate.
Mr Powles is running in the London
Marathon on April 21 st in aid of the
Anthony Nolan Trust and welcomes all
sponsors.

Comic Relief
We are organising various events in
school and on the day children can
come dressed in pyjamas or as super
heros! We are wanting everyone to
bake for the Biggest Cake Sale the
school has ever known!!
Year 6
Advance Information
The Yr 6 children will be undertaking
compulsory Sats tests w/b May 13 th . We
try to keep the preparation for these
tests to a minimum but Y6 teachers will
be using some past papers to familiarise
the children with the test and question
format as well as identify areas of
subject knowledge that can be
developed. Please ensure you do not
arrange holidays for those dates. A few
children will be invited to sit a Level 6
paper the following week – those
children will be informed about this at a
later date. The Year 6 production of a
musical version of Romeo and Juliet will
take place during week beginning July
15 th . This is a major event; please do not
book early holidays.

Raising your Child’s Self
Esteem: 10 Top Tips

We want to offer you an opportunity to
build on your expertise as a mum, dad
or carer by participating in this
interactive workshop presented by
Lorraine Thomas, author of The 7-Day
Parent Coach, Get A Life, The Mummy
Coach and Chief Executive of The
Parent Coaching Academy. Self-esteem
is one of the most valuable gifts a parent
can give their child. This session will be
full of easy-to-implement ideas offering
you positive and practical tools and
techniques to use in everyday family life.
Lorraine Thomas is also involved with
‘The Dyslexia-SpLD Trust’, who will be
publishing a booklet 'Understanding
Dyslexia' written by a parent and her
son, for parents to share with their
children. The Trust is holding a free
one-day event on 2 nd March with expert
speakers and a range of practical

Coats, hair wear, tights and
trousers
A minority of girls are being sent to
school wearing non-school uniform
items: such as check or white blouses,
and non navy outerwear. Please abide by
our simple straight forward uniform
code – it’s the same rule for all.
PTA May Fayre
The theme of this year’s May Fayre is
Hollywood comes to The Hamlet. The
children will be asked to suggest ideas
for stalls and events. We would
welcome your ideas too. If anyone has
got any great ideas or good connections,
please email the school office and we
will pass your ideas on to the PTA.
NHS Consultation
Give your views on plans to improve
health services in Dulwich and the
surrounding areas. NHS Southwark
clinical commissioning group are
currently looking at ways to improve GP
and community based health services –
that is the health services that you
receive outside major hospitals like
King’s College Hospital. Starting in
March, they will be asking for people’s
views on the range of health services
that might be available in Dulwich and
the surrounding areas and two different
ways in which they could be delivered.
The three month consultation includes
proposals to improve GP services, pre
and post-natal care, and prevention
activities amongst many other services –
so they will be of real interest to local
families.
We have invited NHS Southwark CCG
to join us at the school at a special
event, where you can come and find out
more, ask questions and give your
feedback on the proposals. This is one
of the first developments to be
proposed by GP commissioners as part
of the new way the NHS is managed.

Music Concert for the
Alzheimer’s Society
A fund-raising concert in aid of the
Alzheimer’s Society will take place on
Friday 8 March at 8pm at the Old
Library, Dulwich College. The concert
will include as some of the performers:
Gayatri Nair - pupil at the Purcell
School for Young Musicians,
Croydon Bach Choir and Members of
the Lambeth Orchestra.

Yr6 French Trip
Please bring your child’s passport in to
the school office to be checked for
validity before Thurs 28 th February,
these will be returned or retained in the
school safe, as per parents’ preference.
A European Health Insurance Card must
be shown to the office by Friday 22 nd
March. If you have any queries regarding
documents needed for the trip, please
see Mrs Chrissie Purcell, in the school
office. Payments for the trip can be
made at anytime, but preferably on the
following dates; next payments due Fri
15 th February, 8 th March, 27 th March and
19 th April.
