Nuisance Pest Control Contract
Superintendent Guza addressed the Board. He stated that since 2007 the District has contracted nuisance
pest control services (geese harassment services) due to numerous citizens’ concerns and complaints
regarding health and safety. Staff is seeking to continue this program of pest control for the fiscal year
2012/2013. This service is still a very narrow craft but continues to grow particularly in the Midwest, with
only a few local firms. Additionally, the District will continue to use licensed staff for nest destruction and
egg shaking to control the Canada goose populations. This continues to be not only a district-wide problem,
but also a regional and national issue.
In December of 2011, bid packets were provided to 17 firms for nuisance pest control of Canada geese at
various park locations. The following bids were opened on January 11.
