Taking it <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Hoop<br />

Boys Varsity Basketball team had a winning<br />

season with a record of 12-7. The team<br />

advanced <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> final round of <strong>the</strong> Greater<br />

Pittsburgh Independent Basketball League<br />

playoffs, and after a hard-fought game<br />

against Career Connections, <strong>to</strong>ok second<br />

place. The team was led by returning Head<br />

Coach Bryan Brennaman and Assistant<br />

Coach Kevin Miller.<br />

Young Squad,<br />

High Hopes<br />

With a young squad, WT’s Girls Varsity<br />

Basketball team had a rebuilding season.<br />

The team defeated<br />

Frazier High School,<br />

Peabody High<br />

School, and Trinity<br />

Christian School.<br />

This marked Coach<br />

Monica Williams’s<br />

fifth season, along<br />

with Assistant<br />

Coach Brandi<br />

Harris. The team<br />

is looking forward<br />

<strong>to</strong> next season and<br />

great talent from<br />

incoming freshmen.<br />

On Guard<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r great season for <strong>the</strong> Upper<br />

School Varsity Fencing Team! The boys<br />

team, coached by Iana Dakova, advanced<br />

<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pennsylvania Inter-scholastic<br />

Fencing Association Men’s Team Foil<br />

Championships. The team fought hard but<br />

lost in <strong>the</strong> first round.<br />

Middle School<br />

Basketball Teams<br />

Nearly Undefeated<br />

The Middle School Girls and Boys<br />

Basketball teams had winning seasons!<br />

Both teams competed in <strong>the</strong> annual Falk<br />

School Basketball Tournament with <strong>the</strong><br />

girls team defeating Ellis and St. Edmunds<br />

<strong>to</strong> take home first place! The boys team<br />

beat Falk and fell <strong>to</strong> Sewickley in a <strong>to</strong>ugh<br />

loss, for a second place <strong>to</strong>urnament finish.<br />

The girls A team finished 16-2, beating<br />

out Ellis, Sewickley Academy, Shady Side<br />

Academy, and Community Day School.<br />

The boys also finished strong with a record<br />

of 14-2. The teams were led by returning<br />

coaches David Piemme and Lisa Allswede<br />

for <strong>the</strong> girls, and Chris Sledge and Bill<br />

Fitch for <strong>the</strong> boys.<br />

Track Relay Team<br />

Runs Its Way <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Championships<br />

Marking ano<strong>the</strong>r first in school his<strong>to</strong>ry<br />

for ano<strong>the</strong>r rookie team, WT’s relay team<br />

celebrated its first year in <strong>the</strong> WPIAL. The<br />

team earned a spot in <strong>the</strong> 4x800m race<br />

in <strong>the</strong> WPIAL Track Championships and<br />

medaled with eighth place. Congratulations<br />

<strong>to</strong> relay team members, seniors Earl Hord,<br />

Rogan Grant, Adam Eller, and freshman<br />

Bobby Lincoln. The team is led by veteran<br />

coach Bruce Frey and Travis Bui.<br />

Boys Tennis Team<br />

Makes School His<strong>to</strong>ry<br />

In its first year in <strong>the</strong> WPIAL (Western<br />

Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic<br />

League), <strong>the</strong> Varsity Boys Tennis team made<br />

it <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pennsylvania State Playoffs for<br />

<strong>the</strong> first time in school<br />

his<strong>to</strong>ry. The team was led<br />

by powerhouse senior DJ<br />

Goldblum, who won <strong>the</strong><br />

WPIAL Championships<br />

and placed second in <strong>the</strong><br />

state individually. With a<br />

regular season record of<br />

14-4, <strong>the</strong> team proved <strong>to</strong><br />

be a strong force in <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

rookie year. The team is<br />

coached by Leslie Leopold<br />

and Jeff Tuskin.<br />
