This policy outlines the principle expectations of Cerebral Palsy Alliance in regards to
the application and maintenance of rights and responsibilities.

RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES
A right is:
acceptable within a community’s range of actions, beliefs and values
guided by mutual understanding, agreement and current practice
permitted and given to a person under law, eg. equal opportunity, equity and access
and anti-discrimination
Responsibilities are:
things or actions within one’s power or control for which an individual is
answerable
Why is this policy needed
This policy is needed to ensure that all rights and responsibilities of clients are
respected, upheld and maintained.
Whom does it affect
Stakeholders of the organisation, staff, volunteers, clients and contractors
Expected result/outcome
This is one of many policies of Cerebral Palsy Alliance that is aimed at achieving an
environment within which clients, their families and staff are aware of their own and
others rights and responsibilities and have these rights and responsibilities upheld.

POLICY STATEMENT
Cerebral Palsy Alliance will endeavour to ensure that all rights and responsibilities of
those who use Cerebral Palsy Alliance services and those who provide services are
respected, upheld and maintained. The rights and responsibilities are defined in
legislation, and Cerebral Palsy Alliance policies.
PROCEDURES
These rights and responsibilities are to be promoted at all sites and made available to
any client and family on request (see Appendix A, Rights and Responsibilities –What
you can expect when using a service at Cerebral Palsy Alliance).
