COLLEGE RESPONSIBILITIES:<br />

The <strong>College</strong> is responsible for the following:<br />

1. Providing an academic curriculum of integrity.<br />

2. Providing support services for students in order to ensure their success.<br />

3. Providing adequate notification to students of policies or major changes in policies.<br />

4. Providing recreational, athletic, leadership, educational, and growth opportunities.<br />

5. Ensuring that a safe, substance and weapons-free campus is maintained where students, faculty, and staff are<br />

able to pursue learning.<br />

6. Ensuring that all <strong>College</strong> policies and federal and state laws are upheld.<br />

7. Providing a system that, while upholding <strong>College</strong> policies and federal and state laws, is fair to all members of the<br />

<strong>College</strong> community.<br />

8. Encouraging an atmosphere of open, civil dialogue between students and other members of the <strong>College</strong> community.<br />

However, in emergency situations, this dialogue may be suspended by the <strong>College</strong> and replaced with<br />

mandates from the <strong>College</strong> or other Public officials (e.g., fire department, police officials, etc).<br />

9. Ensuring that all members of the <strong>College</strong> community behave in a civil manner with each other and with the external<br />

community.<br />

10. Generally preserving the privacy of the students, within certain limitations.<br />

PRIVACY POLICIES<br />

In order to preserve the privacy of each student, the <strong>College</strong> does the following:<br />

The <strong>College</strong> generally observes FERPA and HIPAA regulations for independent students. <strong>Fisher</strong> <strong>College</strong> complies<br />

with the regulations set forth by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) as amended. FERPA<br />

affords students certain rights with respect to their educational records. The detailed policy can be found in the most<br />

recent <strong>College</strong> Catalog. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) allow students confidentiality<br />

of medical records. More information on HIPAA is available at the Health Services Office. The Family Educational<br />

Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students certain rights with respect to their educational records.<br />

These are:<br />

1. The right to inspect and review the student’s educational records.<br />

2. The right to request the amendment of the student’s education records to ensure that they are accurate, not<br />

misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy or other right.<br />

3. The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student’s educational<br />

records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.<br />

4. The right to file with the U.S. Department of Education a complaint concerning alleged failures by <strong>Fisher</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

to comply with the requirements of FERPA.<br />

5. The right to obtain a copy of <strong>Fisher</strong> <strong>College</strong>’s Student Records policy. You can obtain a copy of the policy from the<br />

Registrar’s office.<br />
