CANAL ENGINE RANGE

The Shanks Canal Engine Range offers great value for money engine packages. All Shanks engines are
built to the highest quality standards laid down by ISO9001-2008. Extensively tested by dynamometers
in our state-of-the-art Dyno Shop, the engines are tuned, run in and full delivery inspection is carried
out before despatch to the customer. Barrus has a wealth of experience in custom building engines for
specific end-uses and users, including the RNLI, MoD Navy, MoD Army, MoD Special Forces, HM
Coastguard and most other professional users. The same exacting standards demanded by these
organisations are built into every Shanks engine.

Features & Benefits
Faster Domestic Water Warm-Up The Shanks engine is fitted with
built-in twin thermostats capable of delivering hot water faster and maintaining the
temperature as long as required. (See page 10)
Highest Torque Levels All models have high torque at low speed and are
Euro II, Tier 2 and RCD emission compliant.
Maximum Electrical Power Barrus were the first company to supply twin
alternators as standard. Twin alternators ensure the start battery and domestic
batteries are rapidly charged and on separate circuits.
A specially designed 230 volt alternator can power domestic appliances including
microwave, cooker, washing machine, computers or hi-fi.
Clean Fuel The addition of a fuel pre-filter and water drain provides the highest
quality filtration system and ensures factory quality levels are maintained
throughout the installation.
Easy Servicing The sump drain pump makes it as easy as possible to drain the
oil and maintain the engine.
Corrosion Protection All castings and water pipes are black E coated for
extra adhesion and corrosion resistance. E coating is far superior to paint in marine
applications and is used by Rolls Royce and other MoD contractors. Other
manufacturers avoid using E coating as it is an expensive process.

Pythondrive
The ultimate contribution to
peace and quiet on board. A
Pythondrive System will
significantly reduce structure
borne noise and vibrations. It
will also solve shaft alignment
problems on installation. The
Pythondrive is an optional fit on
all Shire engines.
Shaft Seal
This has been specially designed for use on the inland waterways.
Originally developed for use on commercial craft on the
Mississippi River, this seal has been successfully
used on the inland waterways.
Centaflex Prop Shaft Coupling
A simple solution to reduce transmission generated
vibration and noise. Also removes the need for a prop
shaft drive flange.

Shanks Warranty Statement
This Limited Warranty provides coverage for three (2) years (or 2000 hours which
ever occurs first) from the date of warranty registration. The repair or replacement
of parts, or the performance of service under this warranty, does not extend the life
of this warranty beyond its original expiry date.
To ensure that you have been registered for your warranty, please ask your
Boat-Builder or Engine supplier to provide your portion of the registration form.
PRM gearboxes are covered by a two (2) year warranty. MA100A / MA125A
gearboxes are covered by a two (2) year warranty.
Engine alternator, starter motor and electrical components are only covered by a
one (1) year warranty.
CONDITIONS THAT MUST BE MET IN ORDER TO OBTAIN
WARRANTY COVERAGE
Warranty coverage is only available from an authorised dealer in the country in
which the sale occurred. Routine maintenance outlined in the Owners Manual must
be performed using genuine parts in order to maintain warranty coverage. If the
customer performs maintenance, Barrus reserves the right to make future warranty
coverage possible only with proof of proper maintenance.
WARRANTY CLAIMS
Warranty claims shall be made by an authorised dealer or boat builder.
The dealer or boat builder will then arrange for the inspection and any necessary
repairs. If the repairs carried out are not covered by the warranty, purchaser shall
pay for all related labour and material, and any other expenses associated with that
service.
WHAT IS NOT COVERED
This limited warranty does not cover routine maintenance items, adjustments,
normal wear and tear, damage caused by abnormal use, operation of the product in
a manner inconsistent with the recommended operation/duty cycle section of the
Owners Manual, accident, submersion, improper installation (proper installation
specification and techniques are set forth in the Operations and First time running
sections in this manual), use of an accessory or part not manufactured or sold by
us, or alteration or removal of parts. Expenses related to crane-out, launch, towing,
storage, telephone, rental, inconvenience, slip fees, insurance coverage, loan
payments, loss of time, loss of income, or any other types of accidental or
consequential damages are not covered by this warranty.
Engine electrical systems fitted with alternator boost charge systems or any other
electrical management systems other than those approved by Barrus are not
covered by warranty.
