<strong>The</strong> Sociology <strong>Program</strong> comb<strong>in</strong>es a thorough<br />
ground<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> social theory with rigorous tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>in</strong> research methods and analytical skills. Students<br />
also ga<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>-depth knowledge of contemporary<br />
social processes and their social, economic<br />
and political factors. This comb<strong>in</strong>ation provides<br />
students with skills which are applicable <strong>in</strong> multiple<br />
doma<strong>in</strong>s and professions. Career opportunities<br />
pursued by <strong>Collegium</strong> Sociology graduates <strong>in</strong>clude<br />
roles with<strong>in</strong> consultancy, the media, market<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
non-governmental organizations, academe,<br />
and other professions <strong>in</strong> which knowledge<br />
of research methods, organizations and social<br />
group dynamics is required.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Sociology <strong>Program</strong> at <strong>Collegium</strong> <strong>Civitas</strong><br />
outperforms most programs of this type <strong>in</strong> Poland.<br />
It has been placed first <strong>in</strong> both Wprost and Polityka<br />
magaz<strong>in</strong>es’ rank<strong>in</strong>g of Sociology departments<br />
and has been awarded first place by the <strong>Polish</strong><br />
Sociological Association among similar programs<br />
taught at <strong>Polish</strong> non-public universities.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Conference of <strong>Polish</strong> University Presidents<br />
has issued it a formal certificate of excellence<br />
<strong>in</strong> education. It has also been formally entitled<br />
to grant PhD degrees, <strong>in</strong> addition to BA and MA<br />
degrees.<br />
Professor Edmund Wnuk-Lipiński, one of Poland’s<br />
most dist<strong>in</strong>guished sociologists, is the <strong>Program</strong><br />
Director. He is a co-founder of <strong>Collegium</strong> <strong>Civitas</strong><br />

Prof. Jadwiga Koralewicz<br />
Honorary President<br />
and was the first head of the Institute<br />
of Political Studies at the <strong>Polish</strong> Academy<br />
of Sciences. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Program</strong> Faculty <strong>in</strong>cludes<br />
Professors Henryk Domański, Poland’s<br />
lead<strong>in</strong>g specialist on research methods<br />
and social stratification, and Włodzimierz<br />
Wesołowski, <strong>in</strong>ternationally renowned<br />
sociologist and President of the <strong>Polish</strong><br />
Sociological Association. Professors Hanna<br />
Palska, Bogdan Mach and Aleksander<br />
Manterys also teach on the program.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Program</strong>’s areas of strength are social<br />
theory, research methods, globalization,<br />
the sociology of citizenship and of market<br />
transitions. Student areas of specialization<br />
<strong>in</strong>clude social psychology, market sociology<br />
and the media, culture and social<br />

students participate <strong>in</strong> research projects,<br />
and have conducted field research<br />
<strong>in</strong> Warsaw, <strong>in</strong> various regions of Poland<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Program</strong> grants BA, MA and PhD<br />
degrees.<br />

<strong>International</strong> <strong>Relations</strong> is one the fastest grow<strong>in</strong>g<br />
fields with<strong>in</strong> the social sciences due to public policy<br />
formation at national level be<strong>in</strong>g dependent<br />
on <strong>in</strong>ternational factors to a degree higher<br />
than ever before. Furthermore bus<strong>in</strong>ess,<br />
political and non-governmental organizations<br />
have to take <strong>in</strong>to account the <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>gly<br />
<strong>in</strong>ternational context <strong>in</strong> which they function. Indeed,<br />
a high proportion of new laws and regulations<br />
enacted <strong>in</strong> Poland over the past decade have focused<br />
on the process of adapt<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Polish</strong> domestic policies<br />
to European Union norms and to other <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />
requirements.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Relations</strong> <strong>Program</strong> at <strong>Collegium</strong><br />
<strong>Civitas</strong> prides itself on its <strong>in</strong>novativeness<br />
and dynamism. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Program</strong>’s emphasis<br />
is on tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g students to be able to conduct<br />
a rigorous, time efficient analysis of events shap<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the modern, globalized world. <strong>The</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g provided<br />
enables students to assume positions<br />
<strong>in</strong> government, bus<strong>in</strong>ess, NGOs and with<strong>in</strong><br />
academe. <strong>The</strong> program’s areas of strength<br />
are <strong>in</strong>ternational politics, strategic studies,<br />
world economy and history, <strong>in</strong>ternational law,<br />
negotiation and multicultural studies. Student areas<br />
of specialization <strong>in</strong>clude diplomacy, the European<br />
Union, and strategic studies. Because the program<br />
is genu<strong>in</strong>ely <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary, students<br />
are encouraged to take courses offered outside<br />
the <strong>International</strong> <strong>Relations</strong> <strong>Program</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Relations</strong><br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>Polish</strong> <strong>Program</strong><br />
<strong>Collegium</strong> <strong>Civitas</strong> has attracted a group<br />
of dist<strong>in</strong>guished scholars, diplomats<br />
and policy makers to teach on the <strong>Program</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Program</strong> Director is Professor<br />
Wojciech Roszkowski, expert on 20th<br />
Century <strong>in</strong>ternational history and a Member<br />
of the European Parliament. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Program</strong><br />
Faculty <strong>in</strong>cludes Professor Jacek Saryusz-<br />
-Wolski, Vice-President of the European<br />
Parliament, former M<strong>in</strong>ister for European<br />
Integration; Professor Jan Grabowski<br />
and Ambassadors Robert Mroziewicz,<br />
Maciej Koźmiński and Ryszard Żółtaniecki.<br />
<strong>The</strong> program faculty also prides itself<br />
on conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a group of young, dynamic<br />
scholars who contribute to its creative<br />
learn<strong>in</strong>g environment.<br />
Students receive exposure to real life policy<br />
issues through an <strong>in</strong>ternship program which<br />
offers entry level positions <strong>in</strong> both the <strong>Polish</strong><br />
public and private sectors and with<strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>Polish</strong> embassies and consulates abroad.<br />
