The International Relations in Polish Program - Collegium Civitas

The Sociology Program combines a thorough
grounding in social theory with rigorous training
in research methods and analytical skills. Students
also gain in-depth knowledge of contemporary
social processes and their social, economic
and political factors. This combination provides
students with skills which are applicable in multiple
domains and professions. Career opportunities
pursued by Collegium Sociology graduates include
roles within consultancy, the media, marketing,
non-governmental organizations, academe,
and other professions in which knowledge
of research methods, organizations and social
group dynamics is required.
The Sociology Program at Collegium Civitas
outperforms most programs of this type in Poland.
It has been placed first in both Wprost and Polityka
magazines’ ranking of Sociology departments
and has been awarded first place by the Polish
Sociological Association among similar programs
taught at Polish non-public universities.
The Conference of Polish University Presidents
has issued it a formal certificate of excellence
in education. It has also been formally entitled
to grant PhD degrees, in addition to BA and MA
degrees.
Professor Edmund Wnuk-Lipiński, one of Poland’s
most distinguished sociologists, is the Program
Director. He is a co-founder of Collegium Civitas

Prof. Jadwiga Koralewicz
Honorary President
and was the first head of the Institute
of Political Studies at the Polish Academy
of Sciences. The Program Faculty includes
Professors Henryk Domański, Poland’s
leading specialist on research methods
and social stratification, and Włodzimierz
Wesołowski, internationally renowned
sociologist and President of the Polish
Sociological Association. Professors Hanna
Palska, Bogdan Mach and Aleksander
Manterys also teach on the program.
The Program’s areas of strength are social
theory, research methods, globalization,
the sociology of citizenship and of market
transitions. Student areas of specialization
include social psychology, market sociology
and the media, culture and social

communication. Each year, sociology
students participate in research projects,
and have conducted field research
in Warsaw, in various regions of Poland
and also abroad.
The Program grants BA, MA and PhD
degrees.

Vice President for Research
International Relations is one the fastest growing
fields within the social sciences due to public policy
formation at national level being dependent
on international factors to a degree higher
than ever before. Furthermore business,
political and non-governmental organizations
have to take into account the increasingly
international context in which they function. Indeed,
a high proportion of new laws and regulations
enacted in Poland over the past decade have focused
on the process of adapting Polish domestic policies
to European Union norms and to other international
requirements.
The International Relations Program at Collegium
Civitas prides itself on its innovativeness
and dynamism. The Program’s emphasis
is on training students to be able to conduct
a rigorous, time efficient analysis of events shaping
the modern, globalized world. The training provided
enables students to assume positions
in government, business, NGOs and within
academe. The program’s areas of strength
are international politics, strategic studies,
world economy and history, international law,
negotiation and multicultural studies. Student areas
of specialization include diplomacy, the European
Union, and strategic studies. Because the program
is genuinely interdisciplinary, students
are encouraged to take courses offered outside
the International Relations Program.

Collegium Civitas has attracted a group
of distinguished scholars, diplomats
and policy makers to teach on the Program.
The Program Director is Professor
Wojciech Roszkowski, expert on 20th
Century international history and a Member
of the European Parliament. The Program
Faculty includes Professor Jacek Saryusz-
-Wolski, Vice-President of the European
Parliament, former Minister for European
Integration; Professor Jan Grabowski
and Ambassadors Robert Mroziewicz,
Maciej Koźmiński and Ryszard Żółtaniecki.
The program faculty also prides itself
on containing a group of young, dynamic
scholars who contribute to its creative
learning environment.
Students receive exposure to real life policy
issues through an internship program which
offers entry level positions in both the Polish
public and private sectors and within
Polish embassies and consulates abroad.
