<strong>The</strong> Journalism <strong>Program</strong> comb<strong>in</strong>es formal<br />
education <strong>in</strong> politics, law, sociology, economics,<br />
psychology, philosophy and history with a variety<br />
of workshops which enable students to handle<br />
assignments from cross-media formats <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the pr<strong>in</strong>t media, radio and television. Students<br />
develop research, analytical and documentation<br />
skills, learn to write and edit pr<strong>in</strong>t media<br />
and to create scripts for radio and television<br />
programs.<br />
<strong>The</strong> courses and workshops of the Journalism<br />
<strong>Program</strong> are taught by a group of lead<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Polish</strong><br />
journalists. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Program</strong> Director is Jacek Żakowski,<br />
host of news and <strong>in</strong>formation programs on the<br />
TOK FM radio station, columnist with Polityka<br />
magaz<strong>in</strong>e and broadcaster on major<br />
TV channels. Other media personalities teach<strong>in</strong>g<br />
on the <strong>Program</strong> <strong>in</strong>clude Grzegorz Miecugow,<br />
editor-<strong>in</strong>-chief of the TVN24 news channel and<br />
Tomasz Wróblewski, editor-<strong>in</strong>-chief of Newsweek<br />
Polska magaz<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Journalism<br />

Many students take advantage<br />
of the <strong>in</strong>ternship and tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g opportunities<br />
available at these prestigious media<br />
organizations. <strong>The</strong> Journalism <strong>Program</strong><br />
at <strong>Collegium</strong> <strong>Civitas</strong> is formally<br />
a specialization with<strong>in</strong> Political Science<br />
but enjoys autonomous status.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Program</strong> grants BA and MA degrees.<br />
<strong>Collegium</strong> <strong>Civitas</strong> was host<strong>in</strong>g J.M. Coetzee,<br />
a famous writer and Noble Prize W<strong>in</strong>ner (2003)<br />
<strong>The</strong> Political Philosophy <strong>Program</strong><br />
at <strong>Collegium</strong> <strong>Civitas</strong> is based on a system<br />
of <strong>in</strong>dividual academic tuition which<br />
enables students to study directly under<br />
their chosen mentor throughout their<br />
course of study.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Program</strong> was developed <strong>in</strong> close<br />
co-operation with the Institute<br />
of Philosophy and Sociology at the <strong>Polish</strong><br />
Academy of Sciences. Its design follows<br />
the assumption that philosophical reflection<br />
will grow <strong>in</strong> importance as a means<br />
of contribut<strong>in</strong>g to modern public life, hence<br />
the program emphasis on political<br />
philosophy. With this goal <strong>in</strong> m<strong>in</strong>d, students<br />
have the opportunity to participate<br />
<strong>in</strong> workshops and to develop practical<br />
<strong>in</strong>terpersonal and discussion skills.<br />

for Best Academic Teacher 2002<br />
While emphasiz<strong>in</strong>g the “philosophy<br />
as practice” approach, traditional philosophical<br />
discipl<strong>in</strong>es such as epistemology,<br />
ontology, ethics, aesthetics and the history<br />
of philosophy are also central aspects<br />
of the <strong>Program</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Program</strong> Director is Professor Tadeusz<br />
Gadacz, one of the most accomplished<br />
contemporary <strong>Polish</strong> philosophers.<br />
He is the recipient of the President<br />
of Warsaw Award for Best Academic Teacher<br />
and is the editor of the Encyclopedia<br />
of Religion and of the PWN <strong>Polish</strong> Science<br />
Publishers Encyclopedia.<br />
Professors Agata Bielik-Robson,<br />
Paweł Dybel, Robert Piłat and other<br />
dist<strong>in</strong>guished philosophers<br />
are members of the <strong>Program</strong> faculty.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Program</strong> is formally a specialization<br />
with<strong>in</strong> Political Science but enjoys<br />
autonomous status.<br />
