This award is given to a student who has shown outstanding service and leadership to<br />

<strong>Meadowridge</strong> <strong>School</strong>.<br />

mick mclaughlin memorial scholarship Alex Kwon & Avery Milne<br />

Mick McLaughlin was a man who came to Canada without a nickel in his pocket and had the<br />

<strong>for</strong>titude to work hard, make use of his opportunities, and never let go of his pride. In honour of<br />

this man who through the principles of hard work, honesty and integrity succeeded in all aspects<br />

of his life, a scholarship of up to $10,000 is awarded to a member of each graduating class. The<br />

Mick McLaughlin Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student who has similarly made the most of<br />

his/her opportunities and who wishes to improve him/herself through post-secondary education.<br />

Dr. michael orser Health sciences scholarship Lyndsey Merry<br />

In 2010, Dr. Orser founded the Dr. Michael Orser Health Sciences Scholarship in the amount of<br />

$1,000 to be awarded annually to a grade 12 student accepted into a Canadian university <strong>for</strong><br />

the purpose of studying in a health related programme. Applicants will be assessed on their<br />

preparations <strong>for</strong> post-secondary studies in a health related field as well as on their initiative in<br />

preparing financially <strong>for</strong> post-secondary studies.<br />

maple Ridge Amateur Athletic Association scholarship<br />

Allan Read & Emma Germain<br />

Students must have a background in extra-curricular inter-scholastic competitive athletics at his/her<br />

school, as a player, manager or other significant position with a team. This participation must have<br />

included the senior year. Proficiency in the sport is not a deciding factor. Selection of successful<br />

candidates will be left to the school based Scholarship Committee as constituted by the Principal.<br />

Allan Read broke two track records during the 2011-2012 year:<br />

The GVISAA Senior Boys Scholarship is awarded to a senior male student athlete who not only<br />

excels in GVISAA competition, but also maintains worthy academic standing. The individual has<br />

also demonstrated good citizenship, character and leadership, making significant impact within<br />

their school and community.<br />

outstanding senior Athlete Allan Read<br />

This Athletic Award is given to one student in Grades 11 and 12. The winner has participated<br />

in a minimum of two school teams, has demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship in all athletic<br />

endeavours, exhibited commitment to their team, contributed to the development of the athletic<br />

programme and has achieved a high level of proficiency in the school’s extracurricular sports.<br />

greg moore memorial scholarship<br />

Emma Germain ($5,000), Lyndsey Merry ($2,500) & Madeline Hanson ($2,500)<br />

The Greg Moore Foundation was pleased to once again offer three scholarships in the total<br />

amount of $10,000. These scholarships are awarded to students in the school who have not only<br />

shown determination through the achievement of high scholastic standings, but also participated<br />

in extra-curricular activities and shown leadership amongst their peers.<br />

esprit de corps Avery Milne<br />

This honour is awarded to a student who demonstrates the most school spirit. It is measured<br />

through positive leadership, involvement in school life, and respectful and positive demeanour.<br />

This student is chosen by the Gryphon Council.<br />

The students who demonstrate the highest degree of enthusiasm, involvement and support<br />

governor general’s Award Alisa Walsh (Class of 2011)<br />

This award is given to the student with the highest averaged mark in all courses in Grades 11 and<br />

12 (provincial exams are included).<br />

This external award is presented to the student who has<br />

taken a minimum of four courses in Science in grades<br />

11 and 12. Proficiency in English 12 must be at a C+<br />

level or better.<br />
