PS Server Software Service Pack 5.90.7, Hugs Application 6.1.5
and Pedz Application 1.5.5
Overview
The PS Server Software service pack 5.90.7 corrects unexpected restarts of the PS Server Software by the software
Watchdog. It is a cumulative release, and incorporates the changes implemented in service packs 5.90.4 (LSASS memory
leak) and 5.90.6 (XMLNS memory leak), as well as other minor improvements introduced in 5.90.2 and 5.90.5 (which
were not general releases).
In addition to supporting the improvements outlined above, the Hugs Application version 6.1.5 and Pedz Application
version 1.5.5 improve the connection time of the client application software to the PS Server.
PSS 5.90.7 - Key Technical Changes
The following key technical changes have been implemented in the PSS 5.90.7:
• Corrected unexpected Watchdog restarts of the service due to a corrupted request
• Corrected XMLNS memory leak – carried forward from 5.90.6
• Multiple changes to limit LSASS memory – carried forward from 5.90.4 and 5.90.5
• Improved client to server connection time – carried forward from 5.90.5
• Improved handling of LON supervision – carried forward from 5.90.5
Hugs 6.1.5/Pedz 1.5.5 - Key Technical Changes
The following key technical changes have been implemented in Hugs 6.1.5 and Pedz 1.5.5:
• Improved client to server connection time
• Bug fix – no longer able to manually admit a tag number already in the Census list without a warning
• Bug fix – now able to filter tag supervision timeout alarms by PC
• Updated to latest PC proximity card reader dll (pcProxAPI.dll – version 6.5.5.0)
• Bug fix - GDI DotNetBar issue – related to number of User Defined Fields (UDFs) – that could prevent clients
from connecting to the server
• Improvements to contain GDI handle leak – prevent areas of the map not being drawn correctly on the screen
• Improvements to correct proximity card reading errors when running two client applications on the same PC
• Enhancement – limit number of UDFs to 24
• Enhancement – add prompt when creating a new User Defined Field – prevents accidental adding of UDFs
Who should upgrade to PSS 5.90.7 and Hugs 6.1.5/Pedz 1.5.5
The following guidelines should be used to determine if a site should be upgraded to PSS 5.90.7 and Hugs 6.1.5/
Pedz 1.5.5:
• All new installations
• Any site running PSS 5.5 or higher that is experiencing unexpected restarts of the PS Server by the software
Watchdog (see section below to determine if a site is having Watchdog restarts)
• Any site running PSS 5.5 or higher that is experiencing an LSASS memory leak that is not already running 5.90.4
• Any site running PSS 5.5 or higher that is experiencing an XMLNS memory leak that is not already running 5.90.6
How do I determine if a site is having unexpected Watchdog restarts
Depending on system size, these unexpected restarts may not be immediately apparent, since the system may only be
down for a short period. Unless a user has either seen a restart, or attempted to use the system during a restart, the
site may not be aware of the issue.
To check if a site has experienced a series of restarts:
1. Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer.
2. Open the Patient Security event log (or Xmark if on 5.54).
3. If the log contains two events a few seconds apart with a yellow triangle beside them, then the system has
had Watchdog restarts as shown here:
2
4. If there are any Watchdog restarts then you should proceed with the upgrade.
Upgrading from installed PSS Software to 5.90.7
Important Note: 5.90.7 is a service pack and must be applied on top of 5.90.6. In turn, 5.90.6 is also a service pack
and must be applied on top of 5.90.4.
1. Ensure the system to be upgraded is running 5.90.6.
2. Copy the Patient Server 5.90.7 folder from the ftp site to a USB drive or other media.
3. Stop all the Client Applications.
4. Shut down the system by stopping the psService in Services.
5. Insert the USB drive and click on startup.exe in the Patient Server 5.90.7 folder.
6. Reboot the Server PC when prompted.
7. Verify that all the devices are online before starting the clients.
PS Server Software Service Pack 5.90.7, Hugs Application 6.1.5 and Pedz Application 1.5.5
Upgrading from Hugs Software 6.1.x to 6.1.5
Hugs 6.1.5 is a full install* and can be installed on top of any previous version of Hugs 6.x.
*Note: In order to make it easier to download from the ftp site, the installation folders do not contain the .NET
file, which is very large (207 megabytes). If you wish to install the Client application on a computer that does not
already have .NET 3 or .NET 3 SP1 installed you will need to download the file separately from the ftp site.
1. Ensure the client PC has .NET installed.
2. Download the Hugs 6.1.5 folder from the ftp site.
3. Copy the file to a USB drive or other media.
4. Close the Hugs application if it is running.
5. Run the Setup.exe and complete the upgrade.
6. Launch Hugs.
Upgrading from Pedz Software 1.5.x to 1.5.5
Pedz 1.1.5 is a full install* and can be installed on top of any previous version of Pedz 1.x.
2. Download the Pedz 1.5.5 folder from the ftp site.
3. Copy the file to a USB drive or other media.
4. Close the Pedz application if it is running.
5. Run the Setup.exe and complete the upgrade.
6. Launch Pedz.
Known issues with PSS 5.90.7
The following are known issues with PSS 5.90.7 at the time of release:
1. We continue to investigate the root causes of the LSASS memory growth. This release resolves or makes
manageable the issue in the vast majority of sites, but there are a few sites that continue to experience
problems. We urge you to continue to monitor your sites, and inform Technical Support if any of your
customers are experiencing growth in the memory consumed by LSASS after applying the 5.90.4 or 5.90.7
upgrades. Please provide complete site information and configuration to Technical Support.
2. Changing the Timeout (hh:mm) value in the Users or User Groups areas under Settings in the System
Manager (and also under the Admin tab > Users in the Hugs and Pedz applications) sets the timeout to
00:00 when it is saved. Setting it again will save the correct timeout value. A bug in the latest version of
Microsoft .NET has been defined as the cause of this issue. We are searching for a workaround for the
next release of PSS software.
3. Echelon LNS version 3.26.12 is not compatible with PSS 5.90.7. A few sites may have been upgraded to
LNS 3.26.12 when troubleshooting LNS issues in 5.90.4. While 5.90.4 was compatible with LNS 3.26.12
PSS 5.90.7 is not. Please verify the LNS version in the Control Panel if you have any concerns before
doing the upgrade.
