‘Badjurr-bulok munga’ (meaning in Woiwurrung: many women make) presents four Victorian<br />
Aboriginal female artists who pay homage to their Aboriginal heritage through their colourful and<br />
bright art work. We invite the community into the world <strong>of</strong> contemporary Aboriginal Victorian art to<br />
share the interest and the beauty <strong>of</strong> Aboriginal heritage. The <strong>Monash</strong> streetscape will be alive with<br />
art that is accessible to all ages.<br />

Aboriginal FLAG RAISING CEREMONY<br />
<strong>Monash</strong> Council hosts an Aboriginal Flag Raising to celebrate 2013<br />
NAIDOC Week, which has the theme: “We value the vision: Yirrkala Bark Petitions 1963”.<br />
This year’s theme proudly celebrates the 50th anniversary <strong>of</strong> the presentation <strong>of</strong> the Yirrkala Bark Petitions<br />
to the Federal Parliament.<br />
The <strong>program</strong> includes a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony from the Wurundjeri tribe,<br />
an Aboriginal flag raising, morning tea and a performance by the Koorie Tiddas. This will be followed by the<br />
‘Badjurr-bulok munga’ Exhibition launch.<br />

Badjurr-BULOK MUNGA EXHIBITION BUS<br />
Experience the Exhibition on a ‘hop on, hop <strong>of</strong>f’ bus. Be chauffeured to each <strong>of</strong> the JCDecaux Advertising<br />
Displays and see the artworks by bus. On the way, you will stop at the Highway Gallery and be invited to<br />
see Aboriginal portraiture painted by artist Amanda Wright.<br />
If you would like to continue your art experience, stay on for the final stop at the <strong>Monash</strong> Gallery <strong>of</strong> Art<br />
where you will be greeted by the Gallery staff for some light refreshments and will be able to see the<br />
Carol Jerrems Photographic Exhibition. Jerrems’ images have come to define a decade in Australia’s history.<br />
Through her lens, Jerrems explores women’s liberation, social inclusiveness for street youths,<br />
and Indigenous people in the cities campaigning for justice and land rights.<br />

CHILDREN’S WORKSHOP & ARTIST DEMONSTRATION<br />
AT HIGHWAY GALLERY<br />
The Highway Gallery is a community run gallery in Mount Waverley that presents quality exhibitions by<br />
emerging and established artists. See some great artwork by Amanda Wright and get the children involved<br />
with a Boomerang Painting Workshop. A fun activity for children to share with their grandparents!<br />
Paint and take home your very own boomerang.<br />

KInja’S DIDGERIDOO, VIOLIN & IndIGENOUS STORY TIME<br />
Hear the sounds <strong>of</strong> the didgeridoo and violin come alive through the wonderful storytelling <strong>of</strong><br />
Ron Murray and Sarah James. Ron and Sarah celebrate the cultural heritage <strong>of</strong> their ancestors<br />
through engaging stories and music.<br />

GUIDED Walk WITH WurundjERI EldER AT VallEY RESERVE<br />
Take a guided walk <strong>of</strong> Valley Reserve with a Wurundjeri elder tour guide in this event organised by<br />
<strong>Monash</strong> Council and the Waverley Bushwalking Club. Enjoy a free BBQ afterwards. Please arrive<br />
early to register for the walk.<br />

WURUNDJERI TRIBE STORYTELLING<br />
Dancers and storytellers from the Wurundjeri tribe will be telling Indigenous stories and teaching<br />

ACOUSTIC POP UP CONCERT<br />
See contemporary musicians Benny Walker and James Henry perform live. Benny Walker’s intimate<br />

performed as a guitarist on the recent Black Arm Band tour <strong>of</strong> the UK, among other achievements.<br />

FolloWED BY A SCREENIng OF “THE SAPPHIRES”<br />
<strong>Monash</strong> Reconciliation Group present these engaging activities for all ages. In this Puppet Workshop<br />
and Puppet Show, children can hear Auntie Iris retell her childhood adventures. After the puppet<br />
show, stay on to watch the acclaimed feel good film “The Sapphires”.<br />
