During the period of October
22-31, 2010, the delegation of Kasetsart
University led by Assistant Professor
Mayuree Thespol, Vice President for Central
Management, and Associate Professor
Dr. Somyot Chirnaksorn , Assistant to the
President, paid an official visit to Germany
so as to strengthen academic cooperation
with Otto von Guericke Universität
Magdeburg and Martin Luther Universität
Halle-Wittenberg. The major objective of
this visit aimed to discuss and join the
special workshop on future collaboration
in the areas of Logistics, Robotics,
Environment, Mechatronics, and Alternative
Energy as well as the Development of Staff
in International Affairs among Otto von
Guericke Universität Magdeburg, Martin
Luther Universität Halle-Wittenberg and
Kasetsart University.
The delegates spent four days in
Magdeburg to visit several interesting
units namely, Max-plank- Institut for
Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems,
Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation
and Automation, Virtual Training
Development Center, Faculty of Electrical
Engineering and Information Technology,
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Hermes
Fulfilment GmbH Haldensleben, and
KU
Delegates in Germany
ENERCON. Besides, during their time
in Magdeburg, all delegates also had
an opportunity to pay a courtesy call
upon Rector and other administrative
members of Otto von Guericke
Universität Magdeburg while the Signing
Ceremony on academic cooperation
between Kasetsart University and Otto
von Guericke Universität Magdeburg was
organized on this occasion.
After leaving from Magdeburg, the
delegates paid a short but very informative visit to Martin
Luther Universität Halle-Wittenberg and also attended
the Signing Ceremony on academic collaboration in the
coming future.
Owing to the policy of Associate Professor Vudtechai
Kapilakanchana, President, Kasetsart University should
emphasize on working closely with partners not only in
Germany but also in Europe so as to strengthen potential
and capacities in teaching and research as a
national research university. Thus, the President
has designated Sansanee Baroness von Enzberg
to be an authorized representative of Kasetsaat
University in Europe to be responsible for collaboration
and coordination between European universities
and agencies and Kasetsart University.

During the period of November 4-6,
2010, three representatives of Kasetsart
University including Associate Professor
Dr. Sornprach Thanisawanyangkura,
Vice President for International Affairs,
Mr. Somsakdi Tabtimthong, Director,
International Affairs Division and
Ms. Noppakao Sirintranon, Director,
Confucius Institute Kasetsart University,
joined the 50 th Anniversary Celebration
of Huaqiao University.
On this occasion, all delegates had
an opportunity to pay a courtesy call
upon Professor Qiu Jin, President and
Mr. Zhang Yudong, Vice President. During
the discussion, Professor Qiu Jin, President
expressed his gratitude and sincere thanks
to President of Kasetsart University for
his contribution to strengthen academic
cooperation between two universities. In
this meeting, President Qiu Jin stated that
Kasetsart University has been an important
partner of Huaqiao University in Thailand
and he hoped that in the coming future
several academic cooperation between two
universities would be conducted based
on mutual understanding and interest.
Besides, the President also purposed
a plan to establish the Thai Studies Centre
at Huaqiao University and requested the
assistance from Kasetsart University on
this plan which was agreed by the Vice
President for International Affairs.
On the other hand, since Professor Qiu
Jin will pay a visit to Kasetsart University
on November 18, 2010, the Vice President
for International Affairs had summarized
the program for the visit to reassure
the spirit of academic cooperation and
friendship between two universities as

Huaqiao University
well as presented the university gift on this
auspicious occasion to President Qiu Jin.
In this short visit to Huaqiao University, all
delegates were very impressed with the great
honor provided by Huaqiao University. They all
were invited to join the Reception to celebrate
this very special occasion of the 50 th Anniversary
of Huaqiao University in the midst of high
rank officers from both central and provincial
governments and honorable guests worldwide.

Thailand-Taiwan
Academic
Cooperation
Conference
During the period of November
13-17, 2010, Kasetsart University hosted
the 6 th Conference on Thailand-Taiwan
Academic Cooperation with the theme
“Food and Agricultural Innovation: Going
Global”. This academic event is a biennial
activity under the academic linkage
between Kasetsart University and National
Pingtung University of Science and
Technology (NPUST) aiming to prepare
a forum for students and faculty members
to meet and share their academic experience
as well as to strengthen the academic ties
between the two universities.
As a host this year, Associate Professor
Vudtechai Kapilakanchana, President,
Kasetsart University, warmly welcomed
Professor Dr. Yuan-Kuang Mike Guu, President
of NPUST, faculty members, students, and
honorable participants. In his address,
President Vudtechai Kapilakanchana
clearly stated that NPUST is an active
partner of Kasetsart University while various
activities by both faculty members and
students have been conducted during the
decade of friendships and understanding.
He also believed that this collaboration will
assist the better understanding between
people of the two countries.
In the Opening Ceremony, President
Yuan-Kuang Mike Guu delivered his Plenary
Address on the topic “Higher Education:
Global Collaboration or Competition which
encouraged the audience to reconsider about
the essence of academic cooperation in this
rapid changing world. After that, Associate Professor
Dr. Sornprach Thanisawanyangkura, Vice President
for International Affairs, Kasetsart University,
addressed on the topic Food and Agricultural
Innovation: Going Global and the related issues.
The conference was also honored by Dr. Wichai
Taechawattananan, President, C.S.G. Company
Limited who was a Keynote Speaker on “Strategy
to Increase the competitiveness for Thai Agri-Food
Product Exporting”. There were altogether 215
participants in this event with 47 papers and
36 posters.
After the Opening Ceremony, the conference
was divided into four sessions including 1) Food
Sciences and Technology I, 2) Food Sciences and
Technology II, 3) Agribusiness and Others, and 4)
Agricultural and Natural Resources, and the Poster
Presentation. Besides, in this event, Kasetsart
University also organized the special
session on Business Meeting between both
presidents and other concerned members
such as Dean of Agro-Industry, Dean of
Fisheries, Dean of Economics which
focused on the future plan, particularly,
the Master’s Dual Degree Program.
On the second day of the event, faculty
members and students, were divided into
four groups to visit Faculty of Agriculture,
Faculty of Agro Industry, Faculty of
Engineering, Faculty of Economics, and
Faculty of Forestry.

President, Huaqiao University
in Kasetsart University
On November 18, 2010, Professor
Qiu Jin, President, Huaqiao University
and his party paid a visit to Kasetsart
University. All delegates were warmly
welcomed by Associate Professor
Vudtechai Kapilakanchana, President,
Kasetsart University. In the welcoming
Address President Vudtechai stated that
Huaqiao University has become an active
partner of Kasetsart University since
2006. He also expressed his sincere thanks and
gratitude to President Qiu Jin for inviting Kasetsart
University to send the representatives to join
the 50 th Anniversary of Huaqiao University during
November 4-6, 2010.
On this occasion, President Qiu Jin delivered
his words of thanks and reassured that Kasetsart
University has been an essential partner of
Huaqiao University in Thailand. Actually, he was
very pleased to witness the success of Confucius
Institute at Kasetsart University (CIKU)
under the cooperation of the two universities.
He believed that in the coming future both
universities would initiate various activities
including Exchange of Faculty Members
and Students, and Joint Researches for the
benefit of students and the countries
as a whole.
After the meeting, two Presidents jointly
participated in the Signing Ceremony
of General Agreement between Huaqiao
University and Kasetsart University
before presiding over the Ribbon Cutting
Ceremony of the Confucius Institute
textbooks Corner at Office of University
Library. Furthermore, before leaving
from Kasetsart University, Professor
Qiu Jin, President, Huaqiao University and
his party paid a short visit to Confucius
Institute at Kasetsart University to meet
with both Miss Noppakao Sirintranon,
Thai Director of CIKU, Associate Professor
Zhao Xin-Cheng, Chinese Director of CIKU,
as well as other Thai and Chinese members.
During this short visit to Kasetsart
University, Associate Professor Vudtechai
Kapilakanchana hosted a reception in
honor of all Huaqiao University members
where all delegates had an opportunity to
meet with Chinese students who study at
Kasetsart University and Thai students who
study Chinese at Faculty of Humanities.

Dr. Supitr Samahito and Dr. Issadee Kutintara
Elected Candidates of Thailand
Dr. Supitr Samahito, keynote speakers and other trainee participants at the Olympic Museum
Advanced Sport Management Courses:
Training of
Program Directors
Associate Professor Dr. Supitr Samahito, Chair of Committee, Doctor of
Philosophy Program in Sports Science (Special Program) & Director of Thailand
Olympic Academy, and Dr. Issadee Kutintara, a faculty member, Sport Management
Program, Faculty of Sports Science, Kasetsart University were nominated by the
Olympic Committee of Thailand, Thailand Olympic Academy (TOA) as candidates
of Thailand to be considered by International Olympic Committee (IOC), Olympic
Solidarity (OS) for “the Advanced Sport Management Courses: Training of
Program Directors”. In this training course, Olympic Solidarity is responsible
for all expenses of the elected candidates who are deemed to transfer their
knowledge and conduct activities in sport management for sports development
in the world after completion of the training program.
The candidates of each country also have to organize one
training program on sport management proposed to Olympic
Solidarity who will take full financial responsibility for
all initiated activities. The result was announced that
these members of Kasetsart University were selected to
participate in the “the Advanced Sport Management
Courses: Training of Program Directors” during October
3 – 5, 2010, in Lausanne, Switzerland. There were 13
participants from 12 countries including Thailand, the
only country from Asia. Participants who successfully
complete this program has become a Course Director
in Sport Management training program accredited by
Olympic Solidarity.

Dr. Supitr Samahito and Ph. D students at the 6 th Asian Association for Sport Management Conference
The 6 th Asian Association for
Sport Management Conference
Thirty five Ph.D students, Doctor of Philosophy Program in Sports Science (Special
Program), Faculty of Sports Science, Kasetsart University participated in the 6 th Asian
Association for Sport Management Conference during October 14 – 16, 2010, at Putra
World Trade Center, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The university administrators accompanying
them were Associate Professor Dr. Supitr Samahito, Chair of Committee, Doctor of Philosophy Program in Sports Science (Special Program),
and two committees namely Associate Professor Vullee Bhatharobhas and Dr. Issadee Kutintara. Two students made their presentation on
“A Problem Identification of Provincial Sport Facility Management by Provincial Administration Organizations in Thailand.
Best Oral Presentation
by KU Researcher at 36 th
ICVS 2010
Dr. Pakthorn Lewchalermwong, a researcher, Faculty
of Veterinary Medicine, Kasetsart University had been
honored with “The Best Young Veterinarian Oral Presentation
Award” for his work entitled “the first case of suboccipital
craniotomy for meningioma in Thailand” at the 36 th
International Conference on Veterinary Science 2010 and
OIE&FAO Joint Symposiums organized during November
3 – 5, 2010, at Impact Convention Center, Muang Thong
Thani, Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Pakthorn Lewchalermwong was
also awarded 20,000 baht by the Thai Veterinary Medical
Association under Royal Patronage for his participation in the
16 th Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations Congress 2011
(FAVA Congress 2011) to be held in the Philippines.

Brown Bag Lunch
Seminar on
The Experiences
of the 2010
Kasetsart University
Interns at Louisiana
State University
(LSU)
On October 29, 2010, the Graduate School held the English lunchtime
seminar on “the experiences of the 2010 Kasetsart University Interns
at Louisiana State University (LSU)”, which was given by the interns
themselves. The seminar was held at the Meeting Room Two on the seventh
floor of the Graduate School Building. Several students from various
faculties and the Dean of the Graduate School, Associate Professor
Dr. Gunjana Theeragool attended the seminar.
Mr. Sandro Kunz, English Editor of the Graduate School, opened
the seminar with an introduction of all four 2010 Kasetsart University
interns who attended the three-month-long internship at Louisiana State
University from May to August. The interns initiated their presentation
with reports on their experiences at Louisiana State University.
Aside work in their respective laboratories, the KU interns
had an opportunity to participate in several activities and
to visit many interesting sites outside the university such as
the National Naval Aviation Museum, the Battleship Memorial
Park, the TABASCO Pepper Sauce Factory, and the Hot Air
Balloon Festival. They also traveled to nearby states such as
Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Later, the interns
went on to elaborate on the background of the LSU internship
program, pertinent application processes, as well as the necessary
arrangements of travel documents such as passports and visas.
The interns furthermore remarked that they gained many
valuable experiences from the exchange such as to practise their
reading, listening, and writing skills. They described that they
had to adjust to the particularities of a lodge environment,
get used to commute to work in novel ways, as well as to work
and live in an unfamiliar environment. They also participated
in culture exchange activities together with their new friends
and professors.
The speakers concluded their presentation with answering
questions from the audience. Finally, the speakers were
presented with gifts as signs of appreciation for their time and
effort spent for the preparation of their presentation.

Mr. Somsakdi tabtimthong, Director, International Affairs Division,
Kasetsart University, participated in the 23 rd University Consortium
Executive Board Meeting during the period of November 9-12, 2010
at University of the Philippines Los Baños, the Philippines. This event
comprised 19 representatives of member and associated member
universities and SEARCA. The Agenda of this meeting covered the
following essential issues:
1. Report of the Secretariat
On this issue, it is informed that the Secretariat had
already received the applications from both faculty members
and students on the following fellowships: 1) two Kasetsart University
graduate students applying for the Thesis grant and 2) seven Kasetsart
University faculty members applying for the Faculty Exchange Grants.
2. Master Program in ASEAN Agriculture and Development
This concept proposal was initiated by University of the
Philippines Los Baños aiming on building competencies of qualified
professionals in agriculture and related fields in the ASEAN.
The proposal was also compared with the course entitled Master of
Science in Sustainable Resource Management.
3. UC Catalog of Graduate Faculty and Research Expertise
Under this project, all members will prepare essential
information about the expertise of their faculty members and
researchers which will be disseminated as data of resource persons
in specific areas.
After the two-day meeting, all participants were invited to join
a study visit to three important units, namely
1. Rice World Museum, International Rice Research Institute,
2. National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, and
3. Institute of Plant Breeding
