Conference<br />

Dur<strong>in</strong>g the period of November<br />

13-17, 2010, Kasetsart University hosted<br />

the 6 th Conference on Thailand-Taiwan<br />

Academic Cooperation with the theme<br />

“Food and Agricultural Innovation: Go<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Global”. This academic event is a biennial<br />

activity under the academic l<strong>in</strong>kage<br />

between Kasetsart University and National<br />

P<strong>in</strong>gtung University of Science and<br />

Technology (NPUST) aim<strong>in</strong>g to prepare<br />

a forum for students and faculty members<br />

to meet and share their academic experience<br />

as well as to strengthen the academic ties<br />

between the two universities.<br />

As a host this year, Associate Professor<br />

Vudtechai Kapilakanchana, President,<br />

Kasetsart University, warmly welcomed<br />

Professor Dr. Yuan-Kuang Mike Guu, President<br />

of NPUST, faculty members, students, and<br />

honorable participants. In his address,<br />

President Vudtechai Kapilakanchana<br />

clearly stated that NPUST is an active<br />

partner of Kasetsart University while various<br />

activities by both faculty members and<br />

students have been conducted dur<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

decade of friendships and understand<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

He also believed that this collaboration will<br />

assist the better understand<strong>in</strong>g between<br />

people of the two countries.<br />

In the Open<strong>in</strong>g Ceremony, President<br />

Yuan-Kuang Mike Guu delivered his Plenary<br />

Address on the topic “Higher Education:<br />

Global Collaboration or Competition which<br />

encouraged the audience to reconsider about<br />

the essence of academic cooperation <strong>in</strong> this<br />

rapid chang<strong>in</strong>g world. After that, Associate Professor<br />

Dr. Sornprach Thanisawanyangkura, Vice President<br />

for International Affairs, Kasetsart University,<br />

addressed on the topic Food and Agricultural<br />

Innovation: Go<strong>in</strong>g Global and the related issues.<br />

The conference was also honored by Dr. Wichai<br />

Taechawattananan, President, C.S.G. Company<br />

Limited who was a Keynote Speaker on “Strategy<br />

to Increase the competitiveness for Thai Agri-Food<br />

Product Export<strong>in</strong>g”. There were altogether 215<br />

participants <strong>in</strong> this event with 47 papers and<br />

36 posters.<br />

After the Open<strong>in</strong>g Ceremony, the conference<br />

was divided <strong>in</strong>to four sessions <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g 1) Food<br />

Sciences and Technology I, 2) Food Sciences and<br />

Technology II, 3) Agribus<strong>in</strong>ess and Others, and 4)<br />

Agricultural and Natural Resources, and the Poster<br />

Presentation. Besides, <strong>in</strong> this event, Kasetsart<br />

University also organized the special<br />

session on Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Meet<strong>in</strong>g between both<br />

presidents and other concerned members<br />

such as Dean of Agro-Industry, Dean of<br />

Fisheries, Dean of Economics which<br />

focused on the future plan, particularly,<br />

the Master’s Dual Degree Program.<br />

On the second day of the event, faculty<br />

members and students, were divided <strong>in</strong>to<br />

four groups to visit Faculty of Agriculture,<br />

Faculty of Agro Industry, Faculty of<br />

Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, Faculty of Economics, and<br />

Faculty of Forestry.<br />
