26 Design Product News dpncanada.com September 2009 Products: Editor’s Choice Altair CAE suite expanded Altair Engineering has released Altair HyperWorks 10.0, said to be an even more powerful version of its integrated computer-aided engineering (CAE) software suite. Included in the suite is RADIOSS 10.0, an implicit and explicit solver technology for linear, nonlinear and crashworthiness problems, that delivers new element formulations that enable analyses to be completed up to 7x faster than before. MotionSolve 10.0, HyperWorks’ modern mechanical system simulation solution, introduces cosimulation capabilities with Simulink con- trol systems and also with DSHplus hydraulic/pneumatic systems by FLUIDON, a HyperWorks Enabled Partner. Co-simulation allows analysis of the coupled interaction between mechanical systems with other systems to better understand system level behavior. Also, with the 10.0 release, MotionSolve now calculates more than 90 different Suspension Design Factors (SDF). The suite’s optimization products, OptiStruct and HyperStudy, introduce structural optimization innovations that include: optimization for combined structural and multi-body dynamics problems; and new acoustic optimization and combined thermal/mechanical optimization. www.altairhyperworks.com/hyperworks10 Brush dc servo motors Pittman “Series 8000” brush-commutated dc motors feature a 7-slot skewed armature design to minimize magnetic cogging (or reluctance torque) and promote smooth and quiet operation. The motors are available in three lengths (2.070, 2.195 and 2.445 in.) and can achieve peak torques up to 16.8 oz in. and speeds up to 9020 rpm at continuous torque for standard motors at rated voltages. Speed, voltage, current, and torque characteristics can be varied to satisfy particular application needs. Standard features for all models include, 2-pole stator, neodymium magnets, heavy gauge steel housing, silicon steel laminations, and copper graphite brushes. www.ametektechnicalproducts.com Multiple unit thermal control Rittal’s TopTherm design is said to offer users flexibility for baying enclosures and multiple unit operation through a masterslave system. The system, which incorporates features such as fault diagnostics, door switch control, and PLC connection, ranges between 300 and 4000 W and is available as both a roof and wall mounted version. www.rittal.ca “ The economy has t aken its toll on our suppliers causing me to lose some really great partners.
