2009 Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Karl Rohrhofer, civil engineer for environmental
engineering and water management, wrote a letter to
the GRIS – association to sustain constant quality of pipes in
settlement water engineering. In this letter he wrote that a
minimum wall thickness of 3 mm is necessary at an operating
period of 50 – 100 years. Then there was a personal
meeting between Mr. Bauernfeind and Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Karl
Rohrhofer where he clearly expressed his opinion that a
minimum of 3 mm would be ideal.

With this knowledge, the Bauernfeind company has decided
to produce the new PP-MEGA-Pipes and Drainage pipes
in SN12 and SN16 with an inner wall thickness of minimum
3 mm. Due to the strengthened inner layer the operating
period of the pipes is longer. Especially for pipelines under
high loading through boulder, gravel, sand or suchlike, it is an
advantage compared with conventional corrugated pipes. With
3 mm inner wall thickness it is no longer a problem to clean
the pipeline with high pressure cleaner or with cleaning chain.
The cleaning instructions of Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Karl Rohrhofer is in
preparation. (Cleaning test of the pipeline is in work).
Pipes with DN/ID 250, 300 and 400 mm are already in stock.
We plan to be able to deliver all other dimensions by the end of

NEW perforation
In an international research project at the
Institute for pipeline construction at the
University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg,
test experiments for the cleaning of drains
were carried out. The result showed that the
best cleaning is achieved with a perforation
width of 5 mm.
The 5 mm perforation width has been
approved particularly by cleaning pipes in
motorway tunnels, so the comment of
Mr. Taferner, expert of the European Pipeline
Center. Now at every new building project of
street tunnel and the Austrian Railway a minimum
perforation width of 5 mm is required.
For this reason, we adjust the perforation
width of our drainage pipes to the latest
standards of pipeline construction. In addition
to a better cleaning of drainage pipes it brings
new benefits such as higher water absorption.
Since this year we can offer a wide range of
drainage pipes. Beside the high quality
PP-MEGA-Drain in SN8, SN12 or SN16 we
still produce our standard drainage pipe
PP-WELL-Drain SN8.

abrasion resistance is ensured.
Perforation width – from the pipe dimension DN/ID
150 the minimum perforation width is 5 mm. Therefore
higher water absorption is ensured.
ring stiffness – extremely high stability of the pipe
through the ring stiffness SN12 or SN16
impact resistance – the high impact resistance of the
drainages allows to fill the trench with gravel faster. This
will help to prevent damage by incorrect installation.
