„I like the calm and security of life here. Like everywhere, there is del<strong>in</strong>quency, but not<br />

like I have seen. If you go out <strong>in</strong> the street, there‟s a 90% chance that you will get<br />

home safely, <strong>in</strong> contrast, <strong>in</strong> Colombia if you go <strong>in</strong>to the street, there‟s a 90% chance<br />

that you will be attacked‟.<br />

In terms of the nature of the flows of <strong>Colombian</strong> migrants <strong>in</strong>to the UK, while the earliest<br />

recorded arrival was 1964, more than half of those <strong>in</strong> the survey arrived s<strong>in</strong>ce 2000. However,<br />

one-third came <strong>in</strong> the 1990s, with a further 16.5% arriv<strong>in</strong>g before 1990 (see Figure 6). In<br />

addition, 99% of <strong>Colombian</strong>s moved directly to <strong>London</strong> rather than anywhere else <strong>in</strong> the UK.<br />
