Baseball Q&A By Anthony Alfano Jay Wade Q: What is your favorite baseball movie and why JW: “I’d probably say “61*” because I’m a huge Mickey Mantle fan, even though I’m a pitcher.” Q: Is there any MLB player you model your game after JW: “I’d say Kris Medlen, because he’s a small guy and we throw similar pitches.” Q: What do you miss the most about your hometown (Bremen, Ga.) JW: “I grew up in a town of 500 people, so I knew everybody. It was bittersweet leaving it. Q: If you could have one superpower what would it be JW: “To fly, because I’m pretty slow.” Q: What is it like playing in Plainsman Park JW: “It’s great being here. This will be going on my third year, and just seeing the regulars come, the new fans and just seeing the stadium and parking deck filled up. Being in <strong>Auburn</strong> in general is an amazing feeling.” Q: What is one thing you cannot live without JW: “My phone to keep in touch with my friends.” Q: What are you looking forward to the most about the upcoming season JW: “Being back out on the mound again and in front of the crowd. The Fall is great, but after a while you get tired of playing the same people. Getting out there and competing again is just such a great feeling.” Q: Is there a quote or motto that you live by JW: “My high school football and baseball coach Tim Hanegan said ‘the only time success comes before work is in the dictionaries.’ It’s written in my bathroom and it’s in my locker. It’s just something that I just look at and reminds me that no matter what, that if you’re not working somebody else is.” Ryan Tella Q: Outside of baseball, what is your favorite thing to do RT: “Hang out with all my teammates and enjoy the time we have off the field. We like to hang out as a collective group together. We all have this one favorite T.V. show that we watch, ‘Sons of Anarchy.’ Every Tuesday we get together and watch it.” Q: What MLB player did you admire growing up RT: (Covelli) “Coco” Crisp on the Oakland A’s for his speed and how he uses every side of the field to hit. Q: What is your biggest pet peeve RT: “My biggest pet peeve is when someone is messing with me and I say ‘stop messing with me’ and they keep doing it. I always have to leave the room.” Q: Of all the team you face in the spring, which opponent are you most looking forward to and why RT: “Probably Ole Miss or LSU. Ole Miss, they were good last year and they are bringing back a bunch of their pitchers. They are going to be really good and competitive just like we are. We brought back our offense, so I would hope to bring our offense to their pitching staff.” Q: What is a song that no one would believe is on your iPod RT: “Nicki Minaj, Super Bass.” Q: What is your most memorable baseball moment up to this point in your career RT: “The comeback against Ole Miss last year. We were down two runs in the ninth, and I led it off with a double. Wacker scored me with a double, and then Cooper hit a ground ball up the middle and scored Wacker. That would be my most memorable moment.” Q: Do you have a favorite venue that you have competed at RT: “The Capital City Classic (Riverwalk Stadium) against Alabama last year.
