AUBURNTIGERS FOOTBALLbut he was faced with a battle in 2011 whenhis season was cut short with a knee injuryagainst Georgia. Although his season wasover, Bell focused on his rehab so he couldreturn to the game he loves. Every step of theway, Bell relied on a familiar support system.“I have overcome all the injuries with the helpof the Lord and my family,” Bell said. “I havea great family and I think I have a big heart.”Bell’s heart was certainly on display in 2010when he came back from an injury that forcedhim out for three games. Beginning withhis return against Georgia that season, Bellracked up 20 tackles in four games with asack and an interception return for touchdown. The sack and pick-six, in particular, stand out.Bell’s first career sack came in the Iron Bowlwith the Tigers holding a 28-27 lead and a littlemore than five minute on the clock. Bell’s sack ofquarterback Greg McElroy ended an Alabamapossession and forced the Tide to punt.“The Alabama game wasthe best game I have everplayed in, and the bestgame in a lot of people’shearts,” Bell said. “To me,it was overwhelming. I cannotexplain the emotionsthat went through mewhen I knew the quarterbackwas sacked.”The adversity and successBell has experiencedthrough each stepof his Auburn careerhas helped mold himinto the player he istoday, an inspiringrole model for histeammates.“T’Sharvan’s beenthrough one ofthose seasons wherethey’ve only won fivegames,” Lutzenkirchensaid. “A lot of the guys rightnow are definitely looking athim and trying to play off whathe’s been doing on and off thefield, keeping a good attitude.T’Sharvan’s just done a good job ofbeing that leader. I’ve always saidhe’s the heart and soul of this team, and he’ll continue to be for the rest ofthis year.”Now taking the last steps of his time onthe Plains, Bell has an appreciation forhis time here.“I will most definitely miss the family atmosphereabout Auburn,” Bell said. “From TigerWalk, to praying with guys in the playersmeeting on Friday nights, there is not onething that I will not miss about Auburn.”2012 AUBURN FOOTBALL9AUBURNTIGERS.COM

Principal Mortgage Ad_Layout 1 8/22/12 4:45 PM PaA Word from Jay JacobsWith the Fourth of July looming this past summer, I faced adilemma. What could I possibly cook to feed my entireextended family?I didn’t want to just cook burgers or hotdogs. I wanted to knocktheir socks off with something different, something hot off the grillthat would have their mouths watering, something that wouldhave them begging for all of my closely guarded grilling secrets.Fortunately, I knew about a resource right here at AuburnUniversity that just may be the best kept secret of all. I knew tocontact the Lambert-Powell Meat Laboratory.I told them I wanted a whole hog to cook in a new roastingcontraption that I had recently purchased. And find a wholehog they did. In fact, that old hog was so big it would not fitin my fancy new roasting box.Meat lab Director Barney Wilborn and his staff came to the rescue after we determined that if wewere going to eat high on the hog, we had to have a back-up plan. They sold me some smoked bostonbutts and ribs that were so moist and delicious that I nearly took credit for the whole hog anyway. If you love to cook out for gameday, it would be worth your while to check out the Retail Sales Room locatedat the Lambert-Powell Meats Laboratory near the intersection of Wire Road and Shug Jordan Parkway. All of the delicious meats sold at the facility are high-quality cuts, and the customer serviceprovided at the retail store is phenomenal. The Lambert-Powell Meat Lab is a fully functional facility with USDA inspected meats. Localshave long known about the high-quality meats, which range from ground beef, ribeyes andNew York Strips to pork chops, spare ribs and an assortment of sausages. They sell baconproduced with an old method that makes it taste better than what you can find anywhere else. They even sell fresh eggs by the flat. The prices are reasonable, set a rate that covers their costs. They do a lot more than sell meat at the Lambert-Powell Meat Lab, which falls under the Departmentof Animal Sciences in the College of Agriculture. They use the facility to provide hands-on educationand experience to students who study Animal Sciences and may seek a future in the field. It’s an old joke that Auburn is a “cow college,” but as Barney says, he could not be more proud ofour agricultural heritage. After all, agribusiness accounts for one out of every five jobs in Alabama. And yes, there are cows nearby. Auburn has its own beef herd on campus not far from the meatlab. The cattle raised there is processed at the facility. Hogs are raised nearby as well. Studentsgain invaluable hands-on experience in food animal production, and important research on thebest production methods takes place at the lab.In fact, the Dale Huffman Conference Room is named for the man who patented the McDonald’sMcLean sandwich. Needless to say, the meat produced at the facility is of the highest quality, using the best science and methods available anywhere in the world. The facility includes a fully functional kitchen and classroom with video conference capabilities, and a numberof classroom and extension activities are held there. Several processing rooms allow students to viewthe entire process of meat production. If you ever want to tour the facility, be sure to bundle up. Low temperaturesare maintained throughout the processing facility to ensure the highest standards of food safety. The Retail Sales Room is open to the public from 2-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday. There is always a great selection of fresh meat offered at very reasonable prices. So the next time you are planning your tailgate menu, don’t forget about this great resource right hereon campus. Come to think of it, the Arkansas game might be just the time to finally roast that pig.God Bless and War Eagle!Jay JacobsDirector of Athleticsp r i n c i p a lm o r t g a g e , L L CP.
