Dress Code Policy, 2012-2013 Academic Year:
Among Parker traditions is a commitment to standards of dress that are appropriate for the school
day in a superior independent school. The purpose of prescribed dress is to free the faculty and
students to address the serious business of teaching and learning. The School reserves the right to
interpret the appropriateness of student dress and grooming as needed, even if such is not
delineated specifically in the following regulations. Students must wear dress code approved clothing
that can be purchased at landsend.com or previously purchased Millswear. All of the following
dress code policies are in effect every school day while the student is ON campus, not merely
during school hours.
The campus dress policy is in effect every day when school is in session in all areas of campus. On
other Parker occasions—such as when students are attending evening and weekend athletic
contests, evening plays, etc.—campus dress need not be worn, unless the School states otherwise in
advance. However, at all times on campus or at any Parker activity, students are expected to be
appropriately attired for the particular event. When the campus dress code is not in effect, the
School reserves the prerogative of determining the acceptability of a student’s appearance at a
Parker function.
Outerwear (jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts):
• Outerwear items that are not purchased from Lands’ End or Mills must be solid in color or from a
college or university. Outerwear may not bear any logos. Appropriate dress code items must be
worn under all outerwear.
• Denim jackets are not permitted.
• Sweatshirts, wind-breakers, and other outerwear items from Parker athletic teams or student
classes/organizations, are permitted.
• Traditional college sweatshirts in neutral or school's official colors will be permitted. This does not
include zip hoodies or sweatshirts associated with college athletic teams, organizations such as
fraternities/sororities, or ones with designer colors/patterns.
• Plaid jackets are not permitted.
• Hats may be Parker baseball-style hats or Ivy hats, worn brim forward and only outdoors, as should
sweatshirt hoods. Snow beanies, berets, visors, tennis hats, scarves, netting, etc., are not permitted.
General dress code guidelines:
• Skirts are not permitted
• Socks, tights, nylons, leggings, shoes, undergarments, and other clothing items may be acquired at
the discretion of the family from any source. However, all items must be in solid, dress code
• Leggings or tights must be worn with appropriate length shorts or skorts over them.
• Fish-net or lace legwear is never allowed.
• Socks that extend past the knees may not be worn.
