“The installation of an ultrasonic sewage sludge disintegration system in a
700 kW biogas plant at Biogas Jena results in 12% higher efficiency for the
plant operator.” This is the outcome of a metrologically monitored six-month
test phase by the independent specialists at Eurofins Umwelt Ost GmbH.
Biogas Jena took over the test facility.
This innovative form of systems engineering is supplied by Weber Entec. The
principle is as simple as it is effective: en route between the fermentors, some of
the prepared substrate runs through the Biopush ultrasonic reactor. The applied
energy of 2 x 2,000 Watt “disintegrates”, i.e. it breaks up the fermentation substrate
through cavitation, thus mobilising exo-enzymes. Biopush works on two
fronts: both the accelerated hydrolysis with the improved transformation of the
fermentation substrate and the permanent lowering of fermentor viscosity lead to
a higher gas yield and therefore to a considerably improved energy balance for
the plant operator.
