Embarking on the voyage to successful heart failure management:
THE MANY ROLES OF THE CARDIOLOGIST
Dear Colleague,
It is our pleasure to invite you to the Novartis-sponsored satellite symposium
at this year’s ESC Congress 2013.
Both acute and chronic heart failure (HF) are associated with high morbidity
and mortality, and this places a large burden on patients, caregivers
and healthcare systems. Consequently, there is a need to improve the
management of both of these problems, whether it be by the use of innovative
therapies that improve patient outcomes, or the implementation of better
management strategies. Cardiologists are central to the improvement of the
care of patients with HF. They play a crucial role in the management of the
condition, directly by treating patients themselves and indirectly by liaising
with other physicians, such as those in the emergency medicine department
and in primary care, and nurses. Our distinguished faculty will take a closer
look at the various challenges faced in the management of acute and chronic
HF, including the treatment of patients with preserved and reduced ejection
fraction, and will discuss how potential new therapeutic targets and other
recent advances in our understanding of HF management can lead to better
patient care.
We look forward to welcoming you to Amsterdam and hope you find this
symposium to be interesting, educational and thought-provoking, and that
there will be an opportunity for you to interact with leading experts to discuss
the key challenges in HF management today.
Capical GmbH was founded as a spin-off from the Institute for Electrical
Measurement Technology and the Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering
of TU Braunschweig in 2010 by Dr. Martin Oehler, Henning Böge and Prof.
Meinhard Schilling. Its purpose is to establish the internally-developed
capacitive ECG technology in everyday clinical life and thus to make its
benefits accessible to both the users and doctors as well as to patients.
In 2013, their first product, the c • one- a very quick and easy to use
The Reitan Catheter Pump (RCP) developed by CardioBridge is a
percutaneous circulatory support device. The unique design of the RCP
features a foldable propeller surrounded by a protective cage at the tip of
a 10F catheter. The RCP is introduced via a sheath in the femoral artery
and resides in the proximal descending aorta. The pump reduces afterload
as well as filling pressures and increases and improves flow and pressure
towards the visceral organs, especially the kidneys.
The device is not yet CE-marked and is currently under clinical investigation
