Delegate ProfilesThe “Raise Your My ESC Profile” (RYMEP) initiative requests My ESC Users online, andCongress delegates onsite, to update their personal and contact data, preferences and profileinformation in their My ESC account. Introduced in Spring 2010 ahead of the ESC Congress 2010, it isnow a continuous and firmly established process throughout the year, both online and at ESCCongress and specialty Congresses. One of several major benefits has been the substantiallyimproved quantity and quality of profile data (from levels below 30% of delegates previously, to 70%and above). The interactive points, where the attendees could be scanned into their My ESC account usingthe barcodes on their My ESC badges, were split between those on the ESC Stand (16 postsprincipally dedicated to membership and journals, but with RYMEP as a secondary process) and 10„RYMEP specific‟ posts located at other strategic points in the Congress centre.Profile information is based on around 74% of active delegates (67% in 2011).‣ Attendee Profiles: 2012 vs. 2011 vs. 2010The profile information presented below has been taken from information supplied voluntarilyby delegates online or, during the Congresses using the My ESC web browser application.Overall the summary profiles are similar, but there are some variations which are highlightedin the individual sections.‣ Profession74% of delegates have provided Profession information. A few figures from the market researchThis year a market research was held during the Congress asking delegates a series ofquestions. The company in charge of this market research was “Shift Learning”.The market research is based on a sample of 2 214 interviews representing the ESCCongress audience. The results obtained show how happy are delegates are with the scientific programme, therange of topics covered and the choice of speakers. The audience is largely satisfied with more than 86% of “Quite happy” and “Very happy”.Despite these positive results, we can see here that the satisfaction about the choice of speakers isless strong. In another questions, we asked delegates how the scientific content could be improved:There is a large demand for practical sessions. How do you think the scientific content or educational elements of the congress could be improved? The idea of having more practical sessions was particularly appealing to youngerrespondents. The idea of having more results from clinical trials was more appealing to those laterin their career, as was the idea of increased coverage of hot topics. Having more electronic contentwas popular across most age ranges. There were also many requests for more clinical casesincluding live case transmissions. There were indications that they wanted these to be discussionsof clinical cases rather than presentations and there appeared to be some appetite for interactivityand debate in general.22

‣ Industry and Exhibitor GuideThe Industry and Exhibitor Guide was available in each delegate‟s Congress bag providingthem with the list of exhibitors and sponsored sessions.‣ A few elements in the market researchAccording to the market research made, delegates‟ satisfaction on Exhibition is lower than thesatisfaction on the scientific programme or the organisation.Delegates‟ expectations are higher, the Industry partners need to improve their standcommunication. Here are a few suggestions to improve the exhibition experience at the Congress.Satellite SymposiaIn order to meet our Industry partners‟ requirements and to address the declining number ofsessions, we amended our offer and provided additional and more flexible time-slots while improvingour profit with a price increase. We removed mini Satellite Symposia and offered Satellite Symposia only with the choice of 45, 60and 90-minute slots at each available time-slot.The new time-slots have achieved our objectives by offering more flexibility to our industry partnersacross a wider number of time-slots while increasing our revenues.- Eleven 60-minutes sessions- Less competition on Tuesday afternoon during the same time slot. This is due to theaddition of the Sunday evening time-slot and the rescheduling of the later Tuesdayafternoon time-slot.- Increased number of evening sessions by the addition of the Sunday evening time-slot.39

‣ Results on electronic formats and communicationAccording to the market research made on-site, the electronic content provided was popular59% of the delegates were very happy and 29% quite happy. The major issue now will be to maintainthis high level of quality provided. There were many suggestions that the Final Programme should bean option, particularly now that the Mobile app was available.Concerning the various programmes we propose: printed final programme, electronic finalprogramme as an e-book, SPO and the mobile app, differences in the age range appear. Printedversion tends to be more appreciated by older delegates. Whereas, the mobile app suits youngerneeds. The final programme as an e-book is appreciated by all and the SPO is the less appropriatedfor them.More than 40% of the delegates intend to access online congress content all year long, weneed to maintain the scientific link created with delegates during the ESC Congress until their nextESC Congress experience. We need to continue developing the ESC Congress 365 product. In this market research, we also asked them the frequency of congress communication, thiswill help us sending less information but in line with delegates‟ needs and interest. The impact of thecommunications will be higher if we take care of their profile. More than 45% of them prefer toreceive information only once a month. The new My ESC Congresses and Events e-newsletter will goout every 1 st Wednesday of the month as emails are the preferred media for 90% of the respondents.54
