The Reddit effect:The social site Reddit, which allows users to generate and share news, also made a markduring the Congress. Press release “Electronic cigarettes do not damage the heart” was posted by a“trusted user” and selected on Reddit‟s scientific home page which generated over 1 100 commentson the site and over 100 000 visits to our press release on Escardio.http://www.reddit.com/r/science/comments/ytoit/study_suggests_that_electronic_cigarettes_do_not/Live Twitter experiment:Twitter was used extensively during Munich 2012 with the support of an experienced medicalwriter who tweeted from:- Hot Line sessions- Guidelines sessions- The Opening Ceremony- The General Assembly- Future targets in systolic heart failure management (Live session where she also askedquestions during the session on Twitter)Our Twitter reporter sent approximately 320 tweets on behalf of the ESC.The communication department also sent over 150 tweets (news, press releases, reports, videos…).Over 1 500 tweets were sent using the official hashtag #esc2012.A few examples of social media posting:49
A few figures from the market research on Social MediaIn the market research made inMunich, we wanted to better understand theuse of social media. This will help to adaptthe communication to our audience.We firstly asked them if they use ornot social media, 55% of the respondentsindicated that they would use some sort ofsocial media to share their congressexperiences. This compares with 28% lastyear.
