Queen Elizabeth School
Dear Headteacher
In September 2014, the teaching of a language at KS2 will become compulsory, and you may be
looking to build your capacity to deliver PML in you school.
Last year, as part of the DFE Languages Support Programme run by CFBT, we successfully
delivered a series of language improvement sessions, delivered by an SLE and supported by a
native French speaker, which provided primary teachers taking part with the skills, competence
and confidence to teach French as a non-specialist. QES has been successful in applying for
some further funding to offer this course once again in 2013/14.
The sessions are aimed at non-specialist class teachers who are or will be delivering French at
KS2 and are free to all schools in the SLF. Whilst we do use some primary methodology,
activities and resources to deliver the course, the focus is very much on language improvement
of a rusty GCSE or a rudimentary knowledge of French from holidays or school.
We can also pay an afternoon’s supply and transport to the first five schools who commit to one
teacher attending all 4 sessions, although we are of course happy for more than one teacher to
attend. It is anticipated the same teacher would attend each session. We hope that more than 5
schools will want to attend, but unfortunately cannot pay supply cover to more than 5.
Please could you return the attached form to Helen Baines, Community PA, at QES for the
attention of Hayley Gray, Assistant Headteacher, if you wish to participate in this project, by
Wednesday, 3rd July.
We hope this course will be of interest to your school. Last year’s participants found it both
useful, informative and highly enjoyable. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any
further information.
Yours sincerely
Mrs Gray
