EDS30…
Portable Ground Fault Location System
for Ungrounded AC and DC Systems
Product description
The EDS30… is a portable ground fault location system for ungrounded AC and DC systems.
The system locates ground faults down to the load level in both energized and deenergized
circuits. The EDS... may also be used for branch ground fault current measurements
in grounded systems. All essential components are housed in a robust aluminum
casing.
EDS30…
System features
• Portable ground fault location system for
ungrounded systems: AC 42…460 Hz
0…790 V / DC 0…960 V
• Works while system is online or offline
• Branch ground fault current measurement
in grounded systems
• Use in main and control circuits
• Comes standard with 0.8" and 2" clamps
(4.5" clamp also available)
• Robust aluminium case with handle
• Test devices PGH18… with variable
test current 1…25 mA
Ground fauilt evaluator EDS190P
• Backlit LCD display, 3 x 16 characters
• Supplied by an accumulator (delivered
with a power supply unit)
• Response value for ground fault location
test current: 2…10 mA for main circuits
• Response value for ground fault location
test current: 0.2…1 mA for control circuits
• Additionally can measure for ground fault
current, with response value 10 mA…10 A
Application
Standalone portable fault location system (no other devices required):
• EDS3090PG
For main circuits: AC 20…575 V (42…460 Hz), DC 20…504 V
With voltage coupler AGE185: AC 500…790 V, DC 400…960 V
• EDS3091PG
For control circuits: AC 20…265 V (42…460 Hz), DC 20…308 V
Portable fault location system used in conjunction with installed units:
(Requires IRDH575 ground fault monitor to be installed - see datasheet for more)
• EDS3090
For main circuits
• EDS3091
For control circuits
Function
Ground fault signal generator PGH18…
For online systems: The PGH18… generates a defined test current signal. The test current
generated in this manner depends on the value of the present insulation fault and the system
voltage.
• Depending on the switch position of the PGH185 or PGH186, the test current is limited
to a maximum of 25 mA or 10 mA.
• The PGH183 limits the test current to a maximum of 2.5 mA or 1 mA depending on the
switch position.
For offline systems or systems < 50 V, the PGH186 drives a test current generated by an
integrated voltage source (DC 50 V). For systems > 50 V, the system voltage itself drives
the test current.
Ground fault evaluator EDS190P
The ground fault evaluator EDS190P provides the following measuring functions:
• Ground fault location. The EDS190P locates ground faults down to the load level by locating

the test current signal generated by the PGH18… device.
• Ground fault current measurements in grounded AC circuits.
The response range for ground fault current is 10 mA…10 A.
Displays
The full-featured LCD display includes many different indications, including the detection of
the ground fault test pulse (in ungrounded systems), the measured ground fault current (in
grounded systems), the accumulator capacity, alarm memory indication, and the set nominal
frequency. A buzzer also activates when the alarm occurs.
