Division of<br />

Security and Training<br />

he Division of Security<br />

and Training oversees<br />

the establishment and<br />

maintenance of prison<br />

security and emergency<br />

management programs,<br />

and implements the<br />

department-wide training<br />

program. The Division<br />

includes the Bureaus of<br />

Training and Staff Development,<br />

Classifications, and<br />

Offender Records.<br />

During SFY <strong>2014</strong>, two<br />

corrections academies<br />

were facilitated, graduating<br />

26 Correctional Officers.<br />

Comprehensive academy<br />

training includes emergency<br />

preparedness, defensive<br />

tactics, ground defense,<br />

cultural diversity, security<br />

threat groups, contraband,<br />

and firearms.<br />

Over the course of 323<br />

days, training facilities and<br />

staff accommodated all<br />

NHDOC staff members in<br />

required <strong>annual</strong> training.<br />

Supervisory training for<br />

uniform staff during this<br />

period consisted of training<br />

facilitated by the NH<br />

Bureau of Education and<br />

Training.<br />

During SFY <strong>2014</strong>,<br />

two academies<br />

were facilitated,<br />

graduating 26<br />

Correctional<br />

Officers.<br />

A new Open Source<br />

Learning Management<br />

System (Moodle) was<br />

launched and is currently<br />

being tested while training<br />

bureau staff are being<br />

educated in course design<br />

and development for this<br />

new delivery platform.<br />

Probation and Parole Officers<br />

completed the most<br />

dynamic firearms training<br />

to date, with the introduction<br />

of Simunitions training<br />

(non-lethal ammunition<br />

training).<br />

Six Taser certification<br />

classes were facilitated,<br />

resulting in 120 officers<br />

being certified to use this<br />

electronic control device.<br />

The entire Department<br />

has now transitioned to<br />

the new semi-automatic<br />

rifle, replacing the 15-yearold<br />

Police Carbines. The<br />

NHDOC liaisons to the NH<br />

State Police Hostage Negotiations<br />

Team continued<br />

training together during<br />

this period, and the Special<br />

Emergency Response<br />

Team (SERT) completed<br />

required training.<br />
