8.3 Site<br />

8.3.1 Site Design. The site shall be constructed,<br />

equipped, <strong>and</strong> operated so as to m<strong>in</strong>imize the possibility<br />

of <strong>in</strong>jury to viewers at the site.<br />

8.3.2 Site Location. Materials <strong>and</strong> equipment on the<br />

site shall be located so as not to <strong>in</strong>terfere with evacuation<br />

of people dur<strong>in</strong>g an emergency.<br />

8.4 Fire Protection E8.4 See also Section 6, Fire Prevention <strong>and</strong> Protection.<br />

8.4.1 Ext<strong>in</strong>guishers. Sites shall be provided with portable<br />

fire ext<strong>in</strong>guishers of appropriate size <strong>and</strong> type.<br />

8.4.2 Combustibles. Combustible materials at the site<br />

shall be shielded from flames, sparks, <strong>and</strong> molten metal.<br />

8.4.3 Fire Department. The fire department shall be<br />

notified <strong>in</strong> advance of such use of the site.<br />

8.5 Protection of the Public E8.5 See also Section 6, Fire Prevention <strong>and</strong> Protection.<br />

8.5.1 Flames, Fly<strong>in</strong>g Sparks, <strong>and</strong> Molten Metal. The<br />

public shall be shielded from flames, fly<strong>in</strong>g sparks, <strong>and</strong><br />

molten metal.<br />

8.5.2 Radiation. The public shall be shielded from<br />

harmful ultraviolet, <strong>in</strong>frared, <strong>and</strong> other electromagnetic<br />

radiation. Shield<strong>in</strong>g shall protect direct viewers <strong>and</strong> adjacent<br />

passers by.<br />

8.5.3 Fumes <strong>and</strong> Gases. The public shall be protected<br />

from <strong>in</strong>halation of hazardous concentrations of fumes <strong>and</strong><br />

gases.<br />

8.5.4 Electrical Shock. The public shall be protected<br />

from contact with live electrical parts.<br />

8.6 Cyl<strong>in</strong>ders E8.6 See also 10.8 <strong>and</strong> 10.9.<br />

8.6.1 Capacity. Cyl<strong>in</strong>ders shall not be charged <strong>in</strong> excess<br />

of one half their maximum permissible capacity by weight<br />

or pressure. Cyl<strong>in</strong>ders of non-liquefied gases <strong>and</strong> acetylene<br />

shall be charged to not more than one-half their<br />

maximum permissible charged pressure <strong>in</strong> psig (kPa). Cyl<strong>in</strong>ders<br />

of liquefied gases shall be charged to not more than<br />

one-half the maximum capacity <strong>in</strong> pounds (kilograms).<br />

8.6.2 Storage. Unconnected cyl<strong>in</strong>ders, stored at the site,<br />

shall be limited to approximately one days consumption<br />

of each gas used. Other cyl<strong>in</strong>ders shall be stored <strong>in</strong> an<br />

approved storage area, preferably outdoors but not near a<br />

build<strong>in</strong>g exit.<br />

8.6.3 Trucks. When transported, cyl<strong>in</strong>ders weigh<strong>in</strong>g<br />

more than 40 pounds (18 kilograms), shall be carried on a<br />

h<strong>and</strong> or motorized truck.<br />

8.6.4 Cyl<strong>in</strong>der Valves. Cyl<strong>in</strong>der valves shall be closed<br />

when equipment is unattended.<br />
