Not only was the weather outstanding, it was a pleasure to
view the powerful genetics at the ranch that Scott Starr has
put together for his 2009 Maternal Empire Bull Sale. The
coming two year old bulls in the offering with Johnson
Gelbvieh in Burwell, NE were with out a doubt some of the
most efficient, functional, and problem free sets that I’ve ran
across this spring. The bulls are developed for reducing
input costs and with the bulls never seeing a kernel of corn,
they still express all of their genetic potential for performance.
Muscle and growth in the bulls was outstanding while still
exhibiting the needed fleshing ability.
Following up the Ranch visit, I thought the bulls walking
through the sell ring in Burwell kept developing into the
potential herd bulls buyers are looking for. The sire groups
that stuck out to me the most at both the Ranch and Sale
were the Connealy Industry, DDA Emblazon 27C and CTR
Good Night bulls. Buyers bought with confidence and can
be promised that in the future they can keep investing in the
CTR program with efficiency and fertility packed into one
