GAIN Annual Meeting - Kearney, NE<br />

Saturday, January 24, 2009<br />

Monte Warner, GAIN President called the meeting to order<br />

at 4:30 p.m. CST<br />

Minutes from the GAIN meeting in November at Salina were<br />

read by Clay Mead and approved by Randy Kleinscmidt and<br />

seconded by Randy Schawang as printed in the Cornhusker<br />

<strong>Gelbvieh</strong> Round Up.<br />

Treasurers Report was submitted by Clay Mead. The current<br />

checking account balance is $1,278.65 and the money<br />

market balance total is $1,088.00. Accounts Receivable is<br />

currently $4,603.18 for Regular Checking and Money Market.<br />

Accounts payable is $1,692.50. Randy Schawang approved<br />

and Duane Rippe seconded the current treasures report.<br />

Committee Reports<br />

Cornhusker <strong>Gelbvieh</strong> Round Up<br />

Clay Mead announced that the March Round Up ad deadline<br />

will be February 13, 2009.<br />

Balancer Bull Futurity<br />

Clay Mead began discussion about current memberships<br />

and finances. Currently only 5 memberships are sold with<br />

10 commitments. Discussion continued about futurity<br />

payout and whether there needed to be a minimum payout<br />

for champion bull. Discussion was tabled for later discussion<br />

at the NCC. It was decided that a 30 membership minimum<br />

was needed for the Futurity to continue in 2009. Discussion<br />

tabled.<br />

New Business<br />

Board Elections<br />

Board Terms are as follows:<br />

Randy Kleinschmidt: 2006 – 2008 term 1<br />

Monte Warner: 2007 – 2009 term 2<br />

Jeff Pope: 2007 – 2009 term 2<br />

Duane Rippe: 2008 – 2010 term 1<br />

Rick Lammers: 2008 – 2010 term 1<br />

Open: 2009 – 2011 term 1<br />

Randy Kleinschmidt’s first term has ended and is up for reelection<br />

for second term. Additionally, one Board position is<br />

open. Dick Helms nominated Randy Kleinschmidt for his<br />

second term. Randy Schawang seconded and moves for<br />

anonymous ballot. Motion moves and Randy is selected to<br />

begin his second term beginning in 2009 ending in 2011.<br />

For the open Board position, Dick Helms nominated Brian<br />

Bauer, Randy Kleinschmidt seconded. Randy Schawang<br />

nominated Rich Johnson, Rick Lammers seconded. Jeff<br />

Pope moved nominations cease, Randy Kleinschmidt seconded.<br />

Vote for open board position continued by show of<br />

hands. 3 votes for Rich Johnson and 7 votes for Brian Bauer.<br />

Brian Bauer is elected to the GAIN Board for his first term to<br />

begin in 2009 ending in 2011.<br />

Budget<br />

Monte Warner asked if the Round Up could take on a new<br />

fee schedule to include GAIN member and non-member<br />

fees in effort to increase GAIN membership. Discussion<br />

continued on possible fees and how it might affect the<br />

membership and Round Up. Randy Schawang moves to<br />

double ad rates for non-GAIN member ads, exempting<br />

commercial ads from added fees for the Round Up. Joel<br />

Cast seconded. Motion carries.<br />

Budget Income and Expenses were discussed. Clay Mead<br />

mentioned that the budget for the last three years has<br />

balanced near $15,000. Budget details and discussion was<br />

tabled until a later date. Clay Mead will include budget in<br />

the Round Up and work on details with the Board through<br />

e-mail.<br />

Donations<br />

Discussion continued from old business for GAIN donations<br />

in 2009. Discussion continued for ideas including a beef<br />

draft, beef bundles or beef vouchers. Dick Helms moved to<br />

authorize a Beef Raffle fund raiser with the help of GAIN<br />

Juniors and move to Executive Committee to make final<br />

decision, Randy Schawang seconded.<br />

A GAIN embryo auction was briefly discussed. This topic is<br />

tabled for a later discussion.<br />

NWSS update<br />

During the meal, Dick Helms gave a National Convention<br />

update. Committee discussions included topics and updates<br />

such as AM (Curly Calf), AGA Field positions, Profit Picture,<br />

and the status of registering purebred <strong>Gelbvieh</strong>. Currently<br />

purebred <strong>Gelbvieh</strong> are in the trend of becoming lower<br />

percentage <strong>Gelbvieh</strong>. The new purebred status for a<br />

purebred will be set at 81.25% or 13/16. A more detailed<br />

status on this and other topics can be found through AGA.<br />
