GAIN Annual Meeting - Kearney, NE
Saturday, January 24, 2009
Monte Warner, GAIN President called the meeting to order
at 4:30 p.m. CST
Minutes from the GAIN meeting in November at Salina were
read by Clay Mead and approved by Randy Kleinscmidt and
seconded by Randy Schawang as printed in the Cornhusker
Gelbvieh Round Up.
Treasurers Report was submitted by Clay Mead. The current
checking account balance is $1,278.65 and the money
market balance total is $1,088.00. Accounts Receivable is
currently $4,603.18 for Regular Checking and Money Market.
Accounts payable is $1,692.50. Randy Schawang approved
and Duane Rippe seconded the current treasures report.
Committee Reports
Cornhusker Gelbvieh Round Up
Clay Mead announced that the March Round Up ad deadline
will be February 13, 2009.
Balancer Bull Futurity
Clay Mead began discussion about current memberships
and finances. Currently only 5 memberships are sold with
10 commitments. Discussion continued about futurity
payout and whether there needed to be a minimum payout
for champion bull. Discussion was tabled for later discussion
at the NCC. It was decided that a 30 membership minimum
was needed for the Futurity to continue in 2009. Discussion
tabled.
New Business
Board Elections
Board Terms are as follows:
Randy Kleinschmidt: 2006 – 2008 term 1
Monte Warner: 2007 – 2009 term 2
Jeff Pope: 2007 – 2009 term 2
Duane Rippe: 2008 – 2010 term 1
Rick Lammers: 2008 – 2010 term 1
Open: 2009 – 2011 term 1
Randy Kleinschmidt’s first term has ended and is up for reelection
for second term. Additionally, one Board position is
open. Dick Helms nominated Randy Kleinschmidt for his
second term. Randy Schawang seconded and moves for
anonymous ballot. Motion moves and Randy is selected to
begin his second term beginning in 2009 ending in 2011.
For the open Board position, Dick Helms nominated Brian

Bauer, Randy Kleinschmidt seconded. Randy Schawang
nominated Rich Johnson, Rick Lammers seconded. Jeff
Pope moved nominations cease, Randy Kleinschmidt seconded.
Vote for open board position continued by show of
hands. 3 votes for Rich Johnson and 7 votes for Brian Bauer.
Brian Bauer is elected to the GAIN Board for his first term to
begin in 2009 ending in 2011.
Budget
Monte Warner asked if the Round Up could take on a new
fee schedule to include GAIN member and non-member
fees in effort to increase GAIN membership. Discussion
continued on possible fees and how it might affect the
membership and Round Up. Randy Schawang moves to
double ad rates for non-GAIN member ads, exempting
commercial ads from added fees for the Round Up. Joel
Cast seconded. Motion carries.
Budget Income and Expenses were discussed. Clay Mead
mentioned that the budget for the last three years has
balanced near $15,000. Budget details and discussion was
tabled until a later date. Clay Mead will include budget in
the Round Up and work on details with the Board through
e-mail.
PROOF
Donations
Discussion continued from old business for GAIN donations
in 2009. Discussion continued for ideas including a beef
draft, beef bundles or beef vouchers. Dick Helms moved to
authorize a Beef Raffle fund raiser with the help of GAIN
Juniors and move to Executive Committee to make final
decision, Randy Schawang seconded.
A GAIN embryo auction was briefly discussed. This topic is
tabled for a later discussion.
NWSS update
During the meal, Dick Helms gave a National Convention
update. Committee discussions included topics and updates
such as AM (Curly Calf), AGA Field positions, Profit Picture,
and the status of registering purebred Gelbvieh. Currently
purebred Gelbvieh are in the trend of becoming lower
percentage Gelbvieh. The new purebred status for a
purebred will be set at 81.25% or 13/16. A more detailed
status on this and other topics can be found through AGA.
