Director
Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward. Psalm 127
To the parents of Gloria Christi Lutheran Preschool/Daycare children:
Children are indeed a heritage from the LORD Himself. God loves life and is the author of life in
abundance. And so even when sin and death came into this world from the common parents of all
humanity, Adam and Eve, the Lord made provision to restore eternal life to all, for as many as believe in
Christ receive it through His Word. So we seek to fulfill the ‘Great Commission’ of the Lord Jesus to
make disciples of Jesus in all nations through both Gloria Christi Lutheran Church and our
Preschool/Daycare. We rejoice in the sending of children to our long-running preschool daycare that has
been recognized in Weld County as one of the best.
Our teachers and staff stand ready to proclaim Christ in Word and reflect Him in their deeds. While we
seek to do many of the important things that nearly all preschool strive to do in readying children for their
school careers, we also seek to introduce them to the basics of the Christian faith as Lutherans historically
confess it. In this we seek to communicate to the changeless truths of the Christian faith in a simple way
to the children entrusted to us for their preschool years. We also cordially invite you to consider visiting
Gloria Christi Lutheran Church to hear the Word of God and to send your children to Sunday School with
us as well.
In Christ Jesus the Savior of the world,
Mission and Goals
Gloria Christi Preschool/Daycare is a part of the educational program of Gloria Christi Lutheran Church.
We are established to “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart
from it” (Proverbs 22:6). Gloria Christi Preschool/Daycare adheres to words of Christ, “Let the little
children come to me” (Mark 10:14). Therefore, our ministry to the children is focused in this way.
The mission of Gloria Christi Preschool and Daycare is to provide a Christ-centered and nurturing
environment in which children flourish individually through the developmental process.
Our goals are to follow God’s Word in teaching and training children. We pray that our children’s lives
will be anchored in Christ, so that they may grow and be strong in the power of His might. An important
part of each day is the emphasis on the Lord’s love and presence. We strive to prepare each child for the
next step in his or her educational future. As we teach various skills and content areas, we do so from a
perspective of God’s love and forgiveness.
Development is a continuous process, individual to each child. Growth follows an orderly sequence, and
it takes place at various speeds; the rate of development varies at different ages for different children.
Consequently, it is necessary to be aware not only of the normal developmental characteristics of a child,
but also of the characteristics above and below the norm. In our school we observe, teach, and pray for
each child. We aim to ensure that each child completes our program and moves on ready for the world
beyond preschool in all developmental areas. We especially aim to give them the great comfort and
knowledge that they are the forgiven children of God.
CHAPEL
While in our care…
At least one morning per week, the children gather in the Sanctuary for a devotional service led by our
pastor. Parents and any other visitors are welcome to attend as well. Contact your child’s teacher for the
specific time and day.
NUTRITION
Each day the Preschool/Daycare provides a morning snack during preschool hours, lunch following
preschool, and an afternoon snack following naptime and elementary school dismissal. Children may eat
breakfast at the center, until 8:30 AM, if it is provided and prepared by the parent. Children arriving after
8:30 AM will need to wait for the morning snack time.
The following table prayer is said before each meal or snack:
“Come Lord Jesus, be our Guest,
and let these gifts to us be blessed. Amen.”
Meal and snack times are a relaxed, transitional time in which the children have time to socialize and
practice table manners.
A child may bring a lunch from home; the food shall be stored in a container marked with the child’s first
and last name and placed in the refrigerator. Please notify your child’s teacher if your child brings food
from home. If the staff assess that the meal brought from home does not adequately meet the nutritional
standards that we follow, items may be removed or added as needed.
Lunch is served at approximately 11:30 AM. Children arriving after 11:30 should have already eaten or
made prior arrangements with the staff.
The center follows the guidelines of the Child and Adult Care Food Program through the State of
Colorado and sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture. The USDA prohibits
discrimination in its programs and activities on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or
disability. (Not all prohibited bases apply to all programs.) Person with disabilities who require alternative
means for communication of program information should contact the USDA’s Target Center at (202) 720-
To file a complaint of discrimination, write USDA, Director, Office of Civil Rights, Room 326-W,
Whitten Building, 1400 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, D.C. 20250-9410 or call (202) 270-
5964 (voice and TDD). USDA is an equal opportunity employer.
REST TIME
State licensing requires that any child in our care for over four hours needs to have a rest time. Our rest
time is from approximately 12:45-2:45 PM daily. All children who have not yet completed their
Kindergarten year are encouraged to sleep. Older children may be asked to rest quietly or will be provided
with an alternative activity.
4
Revised August 2011
The center provides a sleeping cot with a protective cover. Please provide at least one small blanket,
which will be sent home each Friday for laundering. Children may also bring their soft, noiseless, comfort
toy for sleeping. Please ensure that clean sleep items are returned each Monday to the Center.
CHANGE OF CLOTHING
Please keep a full set of extra clothing in your child’s cubby at all times. Check periodically to make sure
the clothing still fits and that it is appropriate for the current season.
PERSONAL BELONGINGS
Each child is designated a place for their personal belongings. Toys from home should stay at home.
While the center makes every effort to safeguard personal belongings, we are not responsible for any lost
or broken items. Money should not be brought to the school unless requested by the Director.
Teachers may have “Show-and-Tell,” which would be the exception to the “no personal toys at school
policy.” On these days, toys remain in the child’s cubby except for sharing time. No guns, war toys, toys
of destruction, or toys that depict ghosts, witches, and the like are allowed at any time.
BIRTHDAYS/HOLIDAYS
Birthdays and holidays may be celebrated at Gloria Christi. Please make arrangements with your child’s
teacher for any special treats or activities that you wish to provide for these times. We are a Christcentered
school and will carry out the Christian emphasis in celebration of the holidays. We may allow
costumes for the Harvest Party in October; however, no evil, demonic, or violent character costumes or
accessories will be permitted.
CLOTHING/DRESS
Please send children in comfortable, simple clothing that children can easily fasten on their own. Keep in
mind that children will paint, use markers, glue, and other messy objects on a regular basis and that
children, including little girls will be playing ball games and hanging upside down on monkey bars while
outside on the playground. Shorts should always be worn under dresses. The playground rocks also cause
discomfort when caught between toes and sandals. Tennis shoes are recommended.
Please dress your child appropriately for the weather; children will spend time outside daily except in very
severe weather. Also, keep in mind the ever-changing Colorado weather; it is easier to take off layers than
to find extra clothing. Finally, please label all clothing items that may not stay on your child all day. This
will help you to avoid lost items.
PARENT TIME
We ask that parents visit the center, get to know your child’s teacher, and assist in any way you can.
Volunteer hours are always appreciated. Teachers can always use your help preparing materials, making
copies, cutting things out, etc. Your child will appreciate your participation as well.
Our center also conducts fundraising projects throughout the year. Your time and efforts in these projects
directly benefit the preschool/daycare and your child. Donations are also a great way for parents to
participate. Please save those toilet paper rolls, baby food jars, or other objects frequently used for art
projects.
Revised August 2011 5
MOVIES/VIDEOS
On occasion, videos will be used for quiet time and/or as part of the curriculum. Only “G” rated movies
will be shown or occasionally, previewed “PG” movies with notification to parents/guardians. In the
event of a trip to the movie theater, the name of the movie and rating will be posted on the permission
slip. Children are supervised at required ratios during these times.
CONFERENCES
Parents are encouraged to ask for a conference with their child’s teacher at any time they feel necessary.
Parent/Teacher conference days will be held for children enrolled in preschool at least one time per school
year. Teachers, the Director, and/or parents may request additional conferences throughout the year as
needed.
COMMUNICATION
Please pay attention to the several avenues of communication in our center. All communication to parents
will be placed in the family’s folder on the upstairs bulletin board. Notices will be posted on the parent
board located on the door to the preschool/daycare, and also in the sign in/out area. Any changes to our
policies and procedures will be in writing. You may also receive calls from “Member Caller,” an
automated phone service we use to notify families in the event of cancellation or emergency. That number
is 1-888-996-3623.
Discipline
Gloria Christi Preschool/Daycare staff looks to God’s Word for discipline guidelines. We believe in a
loving, yet firm discipline that teaches. We are consistent in our discipline. No physical punishment is
used. Since each child is unique, we look to his or her individual needs. Some methods that we use are:
problem solving, positive reinforcement, redirection, natural consequences, time-outs, visits to the
Director’s office and notes or phone calls to parents. In the event that a behavior is endangering others,
suspension or termination of the child’s care may be necessary.
Parent/Teacher communication is extremely important in the discipline process. If consistent behavior
problems occur, the staff will enlist parental involvement. If problems still persist, parents, staff, and
Director may be requested to work together in planning and implementing a behavior plan for the child.
The Board of Education reserves the right to terminate care of a child for persistent behavioral issues that
cannot be resolved once various attempts and methods have been exhausted, for significant behaviors that
endanger other children or staff either physically or mentally, or for behaviors that interfere with the
ability of the staff, children, and other families to maintain the philosophies and goals of this mission.
children on a regular basis and keep a clipboard with a daily attendance sheet.
In the event of a lost child:
On campus: the Director will notify parents/guardians and police if the child is not found within 20
minutes, as all available staff continue to search for the child without leaving other children
unattended. The event would then be investigated internally and reported by the Director to the
required authorities, which are Weld County Social Services and Colorado Department of Human
Services.
Off campus: Gloria Christi personnel will immediately notify facility staff, the Director, the child’s
