On a rudely-engraved plate, which had become detached from its original position, and had been for many
years lying in the vestry, until in 1891 itwas fixed just inside the south door of the nave, is the following
inscription, some part of which is scarcely legible:
"Of your cherrie pray for the sowlle of thomas garrard, whyche departtyd in the yer of ower lorde a
MCCCCC and XXX, of hoys sowlle ihus have marcy."
