I am a student at the GSA, can I apply for a <strong>scholarship</strong><br />

Eligibility is restricted to new students coming to the School into 1 st year or direct entry into 2 nd<br />

year. However, if you studied at the GSA as an Undergraduate student and returned to study on<br />

a Postgraduate <strong>program</strong>me, you would be considered a new Postgraduate student. Diploma of<br />

Architecture year 1 students are also recognised as new students.<br />

I don’t have an offer yet to study at the Glasgow School of Art. Can I still apply for a <strong>scholarship</strong><br />

No – you must have either a Conditional or Unconditional offer of a place of study at the GSA<br />

before you can apply for a <strong>scholarship</strong>.<br />

How many <strong>scholarship</strong>s can I apply for<br />

You can apply for a maximum of two.<br />

Do I have to complete two separate application forms<br />

No, you only need to complete one application form, unless your <strong>scholarship</strong> choice states<br />

otherwise.<br />

Does the British Council’s Scotland’s Saltire <strong>scholarship</strong> count as one of my two <strong>scholarship</strong><br />

choices<br />

Yes. You must make your application on the correct British Council application form and email a<br />

copy of the form to the GSA at <strong>scholarship</strong>s@<strong>gsa</strong>.ac.uk<br />

What is the deadline for <strong>scholarship</strong> applications<br />

Applications must arrive by 4pm GMT on Friday, 1 st June <strong>2012</strong>.<br />

Can I mail my <strong>scholarship</strong> application<br />

We prefer to receive <strong>scholarship</strong> applications by email (<strong>scholarship</strong>s@<strong>gsa</strong>.ac.uk) however if you<br />

cannot email your application you should send it addressed to the Secretary of the Scholarship<br />

Committee, Glasgow School of Art, 167 Renfrew Street, Glasgow G3 6RQ, UK. Please do not<br />

duplicate your application by emailing and mailing your application.<br />

I am a Diploma of Architecture year 1 student – can I apply for the Grace and Clark Fyfe UG<br />

No – it must be maximum A5 size, however you can send an electronic image by email to<br />

<strong>scholarship</strong>s@<strong>gsa</strong>.ac.uk<br />

I need to mail my A5 piece of work – where should I send it to<br />

Please send it to: Glasgow School of Art, 167 Renfrew Street, Glasgow G3 6RQ, for the attention<br />

of the Scholarships Secretary clearly marked with your name and contact details or you can send<br />

an electronic image by email to <strong>scholarship</strong>s@<strong>gsa</strong>.ac.uk<br />

Will my piece of work be returned to me<br />

You can collect your artwork from the Scholarships Secretary once you are enrolled at the GSA.<br />

My <strong>scholarship</strong> choice requires me to prove that I am a Scottish resident. What evidence do you<br />

require me to send<br />

Scottish residency is determined in the same way that SAAS assess students for tuition fee<br />

funding. If you are being funded by SAAS as a Scottish student, please send a copy of your SAAS<br />

award letter with your application. If you are not being funded by SAAS (perhaps you have<br />

already completed an HND and SAAS will not pay your tuition fees until the 2 nd year of your<br />

studies, then you should include the SAAS correspondence confirming this).<br />

My parents are Scottish but I have never lived in Scotland. Can I apply for the Chris Tiso award<br />

for Scottish students<br />

No. You must have lived in Scotland for 3 years before the 1 st of August <strong>2012</strong> (outwith study).<br />

I am applying for the GSA RUK Welcome Scholarship. What evidence do I need to send to prove<br />

my RUK residency status and to show that my household income is not more than £34,195<br />

Please email a copy of your Financial Notification letter from the Student Finance company,<br />

along with a copy of the evidence you provided to Student Finance in order to be assessed for<br />

your loan. If you are unable to send this by email, please post it to the Secretary of the<br />

Scholarships Committee, Glasgow School of Art, 167 Renfrew Street, Glasgow G3 6RQ. Please<br />

do not send original documentation as this will not be returned to you.<br />

Am I eligible for the GSA RUK Welcome Scholarship I am a resident of Southern Ireland<br />

No – only students from N. Ireland are eligible (and from the Rest of the UK, excluding Scotland)<br />

What should I put in my personal statement<br />

Your personal statement should be typed and should be a maximum of 300 words. Your<br />

application will be one of many and this is your opportunity to explain why you should be<br />

awarded a <strong>scholarship</strong>. Explain if you have financial need, how you will fund yourself during<br />

your studies, and give an overview of your skills, experience, aptitudes or personal qualities and<br />

an insight into your ambitions for the future that makes you stand out as the student most<br />

worthy of a <strong>scholarship</strong>.<br />

I’ve heard that last session there were some PSAS awards for postgraduate students from<br />

Scotland and the EU. Are these still available<br />

No - PSAS bursaries are no longer in existence. PSAS has been replaced by PTFL (a Postgraduate<br />

Tuition Fee Loan). SAAS will lend students who previously qualified for PSAS a tuition fees loan<br />

for up to £3,400. The <strong>program</strong>me of study must be a one year postgraduate <strong>program</strong>me,<br />

authorised by SAAS and students must be from Scotland/EU and cannot have previously<br />

received postgraduate funding from the public purse. Students can apply directly to SAAS for<br />

PTFL online from April <strong>2012</strong>.<br />

Can I send my Fulbright Postgraduate application to the GSA<br />

No. You must send it direct to www.fulbright.co.uk<br />
