A Guide to <strong>Undergradu<strong>at</strong>e</strong> <strong>Scholarships</strong> <strong>at</strong> the <strong>GSA</strong>The Glasgow School of Art has a number of scholarships available to new <strong>Undergradu<strong>at</strong>e</strong> students. Eachscholarship has its own applic<strong>at</strong>ion criteria, however all scholarship applicants must have met theacademic entry requirements for study <strong>at</strong> the Glasgow School of Art and hold either an Unconditional orConditional offer letter which must accompany their scholarship applic<strong>at</strong>ion.When applying for a <strong>GSA</strong> scholarship you should note th<strong>at</strong> some of the scholarships offer a contributiontowards tuition fees to assist you during your study <strong>at</strong> the <strong>GSA</strong>, whilst others provide a maintenancegrant. The value of the scholarship does not reflect the full cost of undertaking full-time study, andunless otherwise st<strong>at</strong>ed, the scholarships are for one session only, so you should ensure th<strong>at</strong> you havesufficient funds to complete your course once the period of the scholarship has ended. For inform<strong>at</strong>ionon the other funds available to help you whilst you are studying <strong>at</strong> the <strong>GSA</strong>, please contact the StudentWelfare Adviser.You should check the <strong>GSA</strong> website <strong>at</strong> www.gsa.ac.uk/scholarships on a regular basis prior to thedeadline d<strong>at</strong>e/submitting your applic<strong>at</strong>ion or for newly available scholarships.You may also find the Frequently Asked Questions section helpful www.gsa.ac.uk/scholarships/faqsPlease note the <strong>GSA</strong> reserves the right to make vari<strong>at</strong>ions to the scholarships available and to notaward in any year.About Your Scholarship Applic<strong>at</strong>ionYou should check your eligibility against the scholarship criteria. If you are eligible you can apply for amaximum of two scholarships. You only need to submit one applic<strong>at</strong>ion form, st<strong>at</strong>ing your first andsecond choice. You should send your applic<strong>at</strong>ion form, together with any additional inform<strong>at</strong>ion th<strong>at</strong>has been specified by the deadline d<strong>at</strong>e. Please do not send inform<strong>at</strong>ion th<strong>at</strong> has not been specificallyrequested in the criteria, for example a CV, slides, c<strong>at</strong>alogues.We can only consider your applic<strong>at</strong>ion on the basis of the inform<strong>at</strong>ion provided on the scholarship formso it is important th<strong>at</strong> you are as clear as possible as to your eligibility and the reasons why you shouldbe considered to receive the scholarship. The awarding decision of the ScholarshipCommittee is final. You will be advised of the outcome of your applic<strong>at</strong>ion by email by earliest mid July<strong>2012</strong>.If you are awarded a tuition fees only scholarship, the awarded amount will be deducted from your totalannual tuition fees, and a receipt issued. You will be responsible for payment of the balance of thetuition fees. Please note the <strong>GSA</strong> <strong>Undergradu<strong>at</strong>e</strong> Scholarship Program currently has no availablescholarships th<strong>at</strong> cover the full cost of intern<strong>at</strong>ional tuition fees.Scholarship awards th<strong>at</strong> offer a maintenance contribution are disbursed in three instalments over theperiod of the academic year (the first disbursement is available <strong>at</strong> the beginning of November). YourHead of Department or Head of Programme is required to complete a Progress Review Form (PRF) forterms 2 and 3 confirming th<strong>at</strong> you have made s<strong>at</strong>isfactory progress, prior to the funds being madeavailable. <strong>Scholarships</strong> cannot be paid to students who have outstanding debts to the School.At the end of term 2, all scholarship recipients, whether they have received tuition fees only ormaintenance awards, must submit a student report based on their year as a scholarship recipient, andthe impact it has made, to the Secretary to the <strong>Scholarships</strong> Committee. Sadly, Grace died in 1993, andClark passed away in 2005, and with no dependents, willed theirentire est<strong>at</strong>e to the Mackintosh School of Architecture to be usedfor scholarships. Over one hundred yearsl<strong>at</strong>er, the firm’s contribution to the School continues through thisaward. There has been a Keppie Scholarship <strong>at</strong> <strong>GSA</strong> since the1970s; an excellent way to commemor<strong>at</strong>e and preserve therel<strong>at</strong>ionship between the two institutions.4

The SFCsuggested the <strong>GSA</strong> as an obvious partner, and as a result thefirst scholarship was awarded in 2008. Recipients are invited tomeet with a represent<strong>at</strong>ive of the Trust in the course of their firstyear of study.5
